i was wondering if this is a good idea and if it would be safe for me to do this. I dont have the extra $$$ to dish out for the Street-Sport (4 point roll bar with removable harness bar). I think the harness bar is removable for cars with back seats... but i have a crx which has no back seat
also does anyone know what type of metal autopower uses in there roll bars? Oh and BTW i'm not going to weld this my self, i'm having our Welding class weld it because they have access to just about every welding goodie you could ever want

I did it. I actually had it done by autopower since they are by my work. I don't see why it would be a problem as long as its the same type of metal. IIRC mine is older so it's erw and not the newer dom.
i did it to mine.the bar is about 6 years old,and erw.i used dom tube for the diagonal and harness bar.

i think i've gone over my own head
..erw-style tubing where you basically take a flat piece of metal, roll it into a tube, then seam weld where the edges meet.not legal in many rulebooks now.many older prefabbed bars/cages were made of this.
dom-Drawn Over Mandrel.basically a seamless tube.there are plenty of good threads on this that explain it way better than i ever could.
i'd be hard pressed to tell you the diameter and wall thickness of the tube i used-it's been a while since i did it.i can tell you that it's whatever my car's weight would require by the NASA ruelbook-that's what i went by,even though the original part of my rollbar doesn't meet it's spec.

ahh ok, makes sence now
so if i went to the local metal supply store and asked for some DOM steel tubing in XX inches they sould be able to help me out with no problem right?

yeah, tell them DOM,your wall thickness, and diameter, and they should know exactly what you need....if they don't,leave.
