I buy used on Ebay. Look for antique tools, they are often the best quality and go for cheap. (Though most are in English units)

Calm down there, rich man. Seriously though, I'm completely out of love with Snap-on... overpriced and poor quality these days on a lot of their stuff. I've broken both 14mm (three times) and 17mm (once) 3/8 drive sockets in the last year, one handed, using my 140 lbs of awkward fury. The cheap purchased at 4 in the morning Wal-mart generica aren't overly hardened and brittle like that...

Seriously, most the mics and dial bore stuff you can purchase through Grainger... I recommend Mitutoyo; equivalent to Starrett's quality without being $$$. Everything else, if you must step to an automotive tool truck, I would obtain through Matco.

LOL, I feel your pain with their sockets and but they do carry other brands on the truck that are reputable measure devices. I just push snap on cause you can have a truck account and pay weekly interest free.

The non-Snap-on/Blue Point on the Snap-on truck comes at a 100-250% markup. Ever buy a set of Knipex Cobras? The trick "channel lock" pliers with the push button slide (not to be confused with the more traditional design and cheaper Alligators)? When I bought my first one, the middle size, it was about nine years ago and I paid $48 as I recall. The next week I saw the same pliers on sale at the local Thermo-Pride HVAC supply for $25.

Don't know about you, but interest-free and running account doesn't mean much when you're broke-*** blue collar white trash like me. I really can't afford Snap-on "quality," even if it is convenient.

Sorry for the OT, needed to vent.
