Default whoa havent been here in a while..anyways....Hytech turbokit??

I was just reading through SCC or turbo mag, cant remember which and I saw an article ..or a preview of a

Hytech turbo kit, where the manifold goes sideways towards the direction of the coolant resevoir. Looks pretty crazy. anyone else see this??

What is the benifit of a setup like that over a normal placement of the manifold and turbo? Is it to fit a larger turbo?

...I know he knows what he's doing, but it just bothers me that the wastegate exits in the middle of the 90 degree bend... I just can't see how that could be good for flow...

...then again, I guess the arguement for flow wanting to follow the short radius could be a factor...

someone can correct me...but I seem to recall on the Endyn BB that someone had a problem with that long tube breaking that the wastegate sits perched on.

The reason for this is to ensure that the exhaust gas can exit the manifold before
the turbo EASILY and without creating unequal flow from each cylinder such as
other manifolds do. This is why normal "bolt-on" kits have boost control problems
when using 3" down pipes and exhausts, because the exhaust wants to go
through the turbo rather than to take a 90 deg turn off the #1 runner, or
go past the collector and UP the #1 runner to the wg port.

...Stephen, that was my first thought, but at what expense of power? I could see boost control being "dead nuts on", I'm just wondering (as with everything in the world of the boosted engine) what the trade off is... I want to make it clear that I'm not bashing the work, as I'm not educated enough in the matter to criticize it. Just curious...

Its really no different than any other manifold design.
The only difference is that the wastegate port is in the line of flow
rather than going in the opposite direction or at a direction perpendicular to
the exhaust flow.

Did you mean this "kit"

I am not aware of this being a kit, "yet". I am not sure why it was represented as that now, but you can certainly purchase the header from Hy-Tech Exhaust.

The system pictured is my design and work (on my car). John (at Hy-Tech) is an excellent person to work with, and has bent over nearly backward to make sure that his work would meet my needs. He has done a fantastic job with this project, and it might be available as a kit in the near future... We'll see.

P.S. If any of you members are from SCC and want the real story on this project (much deeper than the picture shows) just throw me an e-mail...
