My First Colorado Emissions Test - Will I Pass?
Well, I'm off to the emissions test sometime this week - I've never had to do this before, so I'm wondering if I will pass. I'm not sure how stringent the Colorado emissions are.
Current mods: TODA Spec A cams, TODA cam gears, Spoon header, Carsound cat, Fujitsubo cat-back.
Looks like I will havee to undergo a Two-Speed Idle test (sniffer).
Should I have any problems with my current set-up?

cam gears at -0-?
stock ecu?
sniffer only = no worries IMO... unless your Carsound has a bunch of hard miles... if it does, I am not sure.
If it is an OBD2 inspection... good luck.

I was reading that site just before I posted here.. lots of stuff. I guess becasue I have 15" wheels I do not have to worry about the dynamometer test which simulates real driving conditions (don't ask me why you have to have 17" wheelsor bigger).

What is an OBD2 inspection?
Cam gears are not at 0, had the car tuned earlier this year, but I am using the stock ecu with a VAFC. The carsound should be fine, not many miles on it really. So you think a sniffer should be no problem?

what the man uses here in Mecklenburg county (Charlotte).
http://www.obd2.com/northcarolina/nc_faq.htm
the last few inspections I have done with the ITR have not had tail pipe sampling. the inspector just plugs up to the obd2 connector and does a visual inspection for a cat. as long as the CEL is off and I don't have any 'not-ready codes', the car passes (along with the other safety checks).

I am not sure what the tuned cams would do for idle emissions. best of luck.

all that stuff is is fuel injector cleaner. no different than any other cleaner. i wouldnt wast my time with it.
just make sure you change your oil before you go. the majority of bad emmissions come from dirty oil. make sure the catalytic is nice and hot when you get there, that will help burn off anything.i dont know if they will have this at your testing stationbut in PA if you fail the high idle test then run the car at 2500rpms for a little over a minute, its just heats the cat up and the\at helps lower the readings. i took my wifes cl in with out a cat and tape over the CE light and it failed the high idle test the first time but it past after holding the car at 2500rpms, but just barely.so a nice hot exhaust makes a differance. good luck.

anything to make the cat burn hotter works, it just burns up more hydrocarbons.

Ditto for Ohio. Didn't hook up any tailpipe sniffer, just plugged into the OBD port and did the visual. Easily passed with IceBox, Carsound, JDM 4-1, and Hondata IM Gasket. Lower emissions all around that when the car was completely stock. Very suprised and even happier

You should be fine. I passed with a turbo, rich fuel ratio, and a CarSound cat. All they do is put it on a dyno and monitor the tail pipe emissions as it similates driving. If you live in a basic emissions area, the test may be simpler. If you go there with aftermarket wheels, they may refuse to test the car unless you put the stocks back on. And be sure to avoid the testing stations with a bunch of little punks running them (like the Longmont one
).

Yes rubbing alcohol works like a charm. Colorado emmissions are not to strict though, you should be fine.

if gears set at zero, then should be good to go since A's aren't very aggressive.
234 passed easily last month:
- jdm 4-1 header
- carsound cat
- 5zigen cat-back

damn.. how are people passing with carsound cats.
I failed with jdm 4-1, smsp carsound cat, and greddy evo.
I had to swap to stock header and cat to pass.

prolly wasn't necessary, but since 234 was coming up on 80K we went ahead and replaced the sparkplugs, cap and rotor prior to smog check.

I plan on doing hte plugs, cap and rotor as well this winter, but was going to do it after the emisssions test sometime. Will those things help me pass?
Flux - who may be worrying about nothing and should probably just go get the damn thing checked before fussing about it...

Go ahead and give it a shot.
You usually get one free re-test if it doesn't work out the first time (at least here in VA).

free retest in CA too. Also, j00 can usually tell from the result what needs to be done in order to pass the next time.

Well, for all those wondering and for anybody in CO that may have to go through this - I PASSED with no problems.
What a relief.
