Default Tires/rims

Low profile tires just are not working for me. Since I've had my car my rims have gotten really banged up from potholes and such which has already caused me to buy a new rim because it got cracked. Before that I had to get my rim lip straightened out twice because of a rim leak from hitting potholes. Now I currently have 17" Tenzo R mean 6 gunmetal rims on Falken low pros (195/60/17) or something in that region. I understand that because of the rim size I may need to get an inch or 2 smaller rims to get better overall performance tires (thicker too). I plan to be strictly on the street no track use. What rims, rim size, and tires would be a good choice for good performance (traction for tires and light for rims) and good to avoid rim leaks, blown tires, cracked rims etc. on bad roads. My car is a 94 Integra GSR and it is not lowered. Also can someone tell me what those 3 dimensions for tires stand for ex: 195/60/17. Thanks alot in advance!

when you look at the tires sidewall and see something like 195/60/17...
the 195 is the section width of the tire in millimeters
the 60 is the height of the sidewall (rim edge to to tire edge) in millimeters
the 17 is the diameter of the rim in inches

so if you have a 15 inch rim then your tire better have a 15 as the last number and the 195 needs to match your rim width as well, however the sidewall height number isnt rim specific because it can vary with things such as lowprofile tires

if i were you and i wanted something nice for the street i would get a 16x7 rim without low profile tires, you could go to 17 inches but unless youre going to lower your car i dont think that would look that good, also 16s arent too heavy and will still perform very well, not every1 makes 16 inch wheels but rota makes pretty good, unexpensive ones although tons of people have them if youre trying to be unique

205/45/16 on 16x7(i think) Superleggeras. The rims are like 14lbs a piece, but a lot more expensive than Rotas.

Thanks for the help guys. 205's look good on 16's. Any chance 215's would work on 16" rims or would it rub together with the car? Not alot of people in my area have Rota's so I might go with those.

<TABLE WIDTH="90%" CELLSPACING=0 CELLPADDING=0 ALIGN=CENTER><TR><TD>Quote, originally posted by rdub21 &raquo;</TD></TR><TR><TD CLASS="quote">when you look at the tires sidewall and see something like 195/60/17...

you got 2/3 correct...the second number in 195/60r17 is a ratio of the height of the sidewall to the width of the tire. so a 60 mean that the sidewall height is 60% of the tire width. so the smaller the ratio, the smaller the sidewall.

at stock height you could get 215's to work, but youd need at least a 7" wide wheel. id get 15s and put 205/50s or 195/55s. i have 205/50r15s on rota c8s and it rides pretty good.
