ipod and the stock radio...
Hey guys, i tried searching...but i couldn't get any results. My question is if there is anyway to integrate an ipod into the stock radio (w/out getting one of those dumb fm transmitters, the quality on those are horrible). I once saw someone who had integrate a minijack into the back of the headunit (stock one) when i was up at GMR one day. he had a mp3 player hooked up @ first, then hooked up his laptop and everyone watched **** off the laptop, while the audio was going through two 12's and his complete audio system. that was...well, very interesting. anyways, back to the matter at hand. anyone know if its possible. i was waiting till february to get this
and this
but best buy doesn't pick up alpine till february. anyways, any info would be great.

Check to see if the stock headunit has a input for a 6 CD changer or something and then have a stereo shop hook up a cable to your headunit and then plug the other end to this item:

I don't think you'll be able to control the ipod directly from the headunit, but at least you'll get good audio coming in and will save you the cost of having to buy the Alpine headunit.

You could try the CD changer RCA input idea. Or you could get an iTrip FM Transmitter. http://store.apple.com/1-800-M...1.0.3
Hadn't seen it mentioned yet.
I just use the tape adapter since i'm old school.

here you go guys get an ipod and a itrip. The iTrip is a fm transmitter that clips on top of the ipod and is very small then you can pick which fm band you want to broadcast on. It's nice becasue you dont have to wire it in and you can play your ipod anywhere that has a radio now ,very cool! It works very well in my s2k and i assume any one elses to, the signal is really good when i go on drives with my freinds they can listen to my ipod when they are following me

I have the neo ion http://www.mp3yourcar.com and it makes a direct connection using the cd changer port so you get cd quality sound. Do not mess with FM modulators - they are a pain to work with. I almost went with the Alpine unit but I heard a lot of negative stuff about it. With the unit I have you can still use the iPod controls and the radio controls. I guess with the Alpine unit and some of the other ones the play lists are altered.

From my knowledge the neo ion cost less then the other company’s who offer a direct connection adapter. If you know anything about car audio or electronics you would realize how much technology they put into that little box. I have heard from several people who have the Alpine unit that it’s not all that great. You loose a lot of the iPods features and so on… My question is why go cheap when your trying to combine two solid investments 1 your car 2 your iPod. Getting an fm modulator or some junk adapter is like buying Gab rims and getting cheap Kmart tires for them. I have been in the car audio filed awhile and I deal with this stuff on a daily basis. If you want to have an iPod in your car then either go Alpine and loose the iPods features or keep your stock deck and use a direct connection device like the neo ion http://www.mp3yourcar.com and keep the iPod interface. Like I have said in a few other posts - I have the neo and I really like it / flawless.
