Default D series tranny or clutch problem?

i just bought a 93 Civic hatch that needs a new "Tranny" the guy said; so im about to buy a new transmission; because when i put it in neutral and slowly let off the clutch i hear a bad griding noise EVEN IN NEUTRAL. when putting the car on the flatbed i heard some griding noise when pushing the car back so im still guessing its the transmission. I tried to drive it by, of course, putting it in first gear but the car doesnt move and it sounds like the e-brake is up and your trying to drive. And i cant put it in 5th gear but all the other gears are fine soooo... is it the clutch or the transmission?

o and also when putting it in neutral and letting off the clutch its kinda like having it in gear and letting off the clutch with no gas... the engine is about to cut off

it sounds like a throwout bearing. and/or the clutch disk or pressure plate is dead

no its the tranny. you moved the car while its in neutral and it makes a grinding noise right? it cannot be the throw out bearing.

take the tranny off and buy a new used one they are cheap...

While it's off you can look at the bearing and the clutch plate.

You wouldn't buy something before taking it off anyways would you?

If you take it to a shop to get done, then ask the mechanic to SHOW you what needs to get bought before you buy anything. Rebuilding he tranny is going to be more expensive then buying one, so don't tell anyone to rebuild it unless you're doing some specific gearing or putting carbon syncros or something...

yea i would agree with taking it off first or taking it to a mechanic. It "could" be the clutch disc being done and the metal rivets hitting the pressure plate, but i really think the trans is done. Start calling junkyards to grab a trans, they aren't very expesive, U-pull it places are even better. You do the work, and you save the money.
