Default What do YOU Consider RICE?

Okay, before you form an opinion of me and my standpoint on this issue, THINK before you type and let's TRY to keep this CIVIL.

If you list something as rice, then please say WHY it is rice to you.

Why am I making this topic? Because I see people throw around the term rice very loosely and universally when they talk **** on other people's cars.

So, what's rice to YOU?

We'll see, right? It's a nice test to see how our little EG+ forum is, right?

BTW: DragII...your siganture says "I hate Honda's" as in Honda possesive form, not plural

I think of rice as being more of an attitude.

If someone makes their car to look real nice that is ok...even though that may include a large 3 level spoiler, 19" rims, etc.

Now, that owner becomes ricey after the owner starts bragging how fast his car is, when it has no modifications to make it actually fast.

That car could also become rice with incorrect labeling...ie: Type-R stickers on a car not so equipped.

Call me crazy but, I REALLY don't care what people do to there cars.

If we all had the same styles it would be pretty boring out there. Why would one person really be concerned with another persons taillights? I see these people "care" so much about others cars. It's all very confusing to me. If it's not yours why in the hell would one give a **** what Joe Blow does to his car.

If Joe Blow wants to drive around with a Zebra painted car... good for Joe Blow... I don't have to drive it.

I think the REAL problem on half of these websites is people's OWN insecurities. They "care" what other people think and what other people like. They actually care more about other's opinions than their own...... Pretty sad.

After all, I could care less what some dude from Skokie, IL thinks of my car or my style...... He will never drive it and probably never see it. even if he did, I still could care less what he thinks.

No flames here to anyone.... i say... just do what you like and like what you do!

Very valid point, I agree completely. I also would consider anything (import or domestic) with aftermarket "performance" parts that actually do nothing to or decrease performance rice (spoilers, clear lights).
Also, I think stealing parts (ie. altezza lights) from other car manufacturers (Toyota or Lexus) is rice. That my $.02, fairly civilized I think!

My defenition of rice is anything that someone adds to their car to make it seem or look faster than it actually is. We had a little discussion in the crx forum about this the other day, I mentioned that the only sticker on my car was the honda-tech.com sticker that is not rice to me, putting an sir badge on your car without it actually being an sir is rice to me.

I would like to agree with that, but I don't think I could. Unless I actually talked to the owner as to why he or she got the modification. If I put a 99 Si spoiler on my car, it would not be rice.

But, it is hard to argue that those big aluminum spoilers are not ricey. Everyone I talked to who owned one thought they increased performance. That is just ignorance.

You can hate the topic all you want to, but at LEAST this way we can see what people define as RICE.

For those of you who call **** rice all day long here's your chance to express yourselves now with an EXPLANATION too.

RICE: when someting is on a car that does not belong there. i know its vague but its what i feel rice to be.

the other day when i went to eat dim-sum i saw a 240SX with white acura badges. <--Rice

i also see a ford festiva with a "type-r" sticker around. <--Rice

as for other cars that can get their manufacturer straight, its all game.

I hate seeing other make of cars that have nothing to do with honda/acura with type r or sir sticker on their car. I saw a geo metro the other day with a sir sticker on the back that was pealing off and I couldn't stop laughing my *** off.

hmmm....im with whoever posted above, i could care less what anybody thinks of my car...i used to run at every light with whoever revved one me, but ive grown up (in the whole year that ive had my license) and learned to pick my battles wisely and race only those who seem like they would be able to run with me...now on to rice~ i think rice is when people try to act like theyre car is better than it actually is, or label it incorrectly, but hey, who cares, burn em on the track and let them know whos boss

I want to ask a very simple question...

Does it really matter?

Hey you.. yeah you.. .stop before you click that "Reply" button and start madly typing a response as to why it matters or not. Stop and think for one second.

Does it really matter? Does it? I mean sure there are some of us that feel that people having "Riced out" cars make the people that are true to modifying cars look bad, but does it really matter? Im sure you can come up with all sorts of comments as to why this car is "ricey" and this other car isnt, but when it all comes down to it, does it really matter? More importantly does calling something rice do anything to change and or solve the "problem" of rice?

I will agree with a lot of people when they post a picture of a particularily rediculous car, and maybe even laugh about it... but hey thats THEIR car, and if they like it, then so be it. Calling it one thing or another isnt going to change the simple fact that it does exsist, and theres nothing you can do to change it. So why even waste the breath? Or better yet, why not just say "Hey ya know its not really my style, but Im sure you put time and effort into your car to make it the way you like it."

So... now you can click that reply button... just think before you reply. Does it REALLY matter wether its "rice" or not?

See, thats where we differ. I would consider that rice because I feel as if your are insulting my inteligence. Most (obviously not all) of the time, people do things like that to try to pass their car off as a higher trim level.

I guess that basically, most of my views of rice stem from http://www. riceboypage.com which I feel acuratly defines rice many times.

im sure every one, has seen a car that they like that had the big spoiler or the huge rims or front end. but this so called rice equipment is what got us in to wanting to fix up are cars. i mean it took "rice" to open the door for imports. yeah people classify a aluminum wing as rice, but stuff like tht opens the door. i my self dont like flashy things except of cource a fmic. but rice can be decribed as anything. i manjust becus some one has black wheels dont mean ther jdm. and jsut beacuse some one has 17's or a aluminun wing means there rice.

Well, I just thought since so many use the term so frequently that they could "enlighten" us on how they can justify calling a car "rice."

You can sit here with that "they put time and effort" BULLSHIT all you want to, but that has NOTHING to do with rice or not stuff does it?

Example?

There's a guy who posts a pic of his car. No stickers, lowered but not slammed, 15'' 10lb. wheels of your choice, DOHC VTEC swap, Recaro SRD seats or SPOON buckets, all the really expensive and FUNCTIONAL ****.

Now what if I told you mommy's and daddy's money paid for it all and the dipshit just dropped the car off at a shop and had some friends help him decide on what to get?

Does the guy get props still? I'll bet he does here. See, we hardly EVER get the FULL story on a car we see pics of - and yet people go nuts labeling **** and saying "I respect the time spent on that..." blah blah!

Now, same thing, only this time the car is slammed to the ground on airbags, has 18'' wheels, bright-*** paintjob (color of your choice), crazy-*** body kit of your choice, crazy-*** stereo system, graphics all over it, etc.

Let's say the same. Kid uses parents' money to create the car. Picks out what he wants, and just has it built by a shop who does body and paint, stereos, etc.

Who gets more props? Why?

You can't just make a blanket statement about respecting everybody's cars and **** because they "spent a lot of time and money" on it. How do you KNOW that ****?

The thing is that a lot of the cars you see with the "JDM" look or the clean look with swaps and a lot of functional parts have been built up by the OWNERS and their friends. Engine swaps, suspension swaps, and all the other good **** - that takes time and money, and a lot of the gruntwork is carried out by the OWNERS them selves.

What about the other types of cars? Body kits? Crazy-*** paintjobs? Stereo stuff? How many of these cars do you think are actually built by the OWNERS? Compare the money in a car like the SPOON Integra Type R and money in a car like whatever show car you prefer. Think building up a circuit-racer is cheap? Think again. Which car would be more practical and PURPOSEFUL? Depends on you, but I'd take the SPOON car any day because:

SPEED never goes out of style. PERIOD.

Rice to me is not so much a particular product, it's more of an attitude that some people have. Jumping on the bandwagon and doing or getting things because everyone else is, that's what rice is.
I was bored and made a sticker today and said that it should be mandatory for all riceboy's. I put it up in the hybrid forum and got a few laughs.
