I know there are ways of attaching it to stock stereos with changer controls but does anyone have any experience in doing this with an in dash changer

What kind of car do you have? I think that with imports it works if they do not have navigation. Really Fords are the only cars that are not compatible if you have an in dash changer. I got mine from http://www.mp3yourcar.com for my Ford Ranger “no in dash” and they told me I had a 30 day money back guarantee if it didn’t work or I wasn’t happy with it. I called them up because my homie with an M3 wants one but they are not out yet. The guy I talked to was cool and said they have something coming out in the near future. I would give them a call and see if they have an adapter that will work with your car.
Im trying to answer the same question but I have one problem you probably DONT have...
The Honda CRV is in Seattle and Im in Philly and ist not my car....
*IF* the double DIN unit with the in dash 6 disk changer has a PLUG in the back - then you cna wire an Aux input to it.
There appear to be two types
a 14 (I think) pin square plug
a 8 (I think) pin round "din" plug
Normally I pull the radio out and take a look. But since the CRv is in Seattle Im trying to get this as a "surprise" gift - its a tad harder to do....

You have the double DIN in dash 6 CD changer - right?
So - waht connector plug is avail on the back?
Accoding the the manuals its the 14 min rectangular plug - but I wonder why a double DIN radio with both a cassette and a 6 disk in dash changer would also have a connector for a second changer...

You need to actually test it to know if it works or not. I would pull the radio and then contact http://www.mp3yourcar.com and ask them if they have a plug that matches up or if they have any suggestions. These iPod connectors are fairly new so they are still being developed for some cars. I know for a fact that no one makes an adapter that works with Lexus for example. Again your best bet is to holla at them and see if they have anything for your car.
The problem I have is that the car radio in question is in Seattle and Im in Philly.
I was flying out there and I wanted to order the parts, go out there and install them.
I wont be there long enugg to
take the radio out
order parts
wait for them to arrive
install
Research on this site
http://www.logjamelectronics.com/
seems to indicate that the 6 disk double DIN unit is NOT compatible with the adapters (aka it does NOT have a CD changer control port).
This is no surprise - why would it have CD chagner controls when it IS a CD changer?
For example - see the note here
http://www.logjamelectronics.c....html
"NOT compatible with vehicles that have the factory in-dash 6-disc factory CD changer."
So Im back to the WIRED FM Modulator idea.
It might be a bit of a "hack" but I think this will work fine
