i just swapped in a rebuilt k20a2 into my ep3 and i have one question. when i start my car up, my oil light stays on but gets dimming until it eventually turns off. i filled the engine with 6.1 qts (recommended for k20a2's that have been overhauled).

is this normal for engines that just got rebuilt? this is my first engine that has gotten rebuilt.

 

I dont know the answer to your question, but was wondering was the swap really easy? Just take out the old and swap in the new? I am always dubious when someone says direct bolt in.

it was a direct swap.

 

6.1 quarts seems like a lot, but if it's recommended then whatever

I was thinking the same, but think I'll check out the Helms in a little bit.

 

Do you check your dipstick? Maybe if it's been overhauled and it was your first time putting oil in. But i hardly see how you can put that afterwards. Check the dipstick and make sure there isn't too much oil

I think the amount you put in is a LOT.

6.1 quarts on a 2.0 litre?

Are you kidding me? On my 2.4 KA, i only have to put in 3 1/2.


Where did you read that it is recommended to put 6.1 quarts in a brand new motor unbroken in?

The only technicality I would think of related to oil, is that you could go get some break-in oil from Honda (that they use on RSX), but technically I doubt that 6.1 quarts is recquired for breaking in.

That's just bad for your oil seals man..
