Default autometer acting strange

I have a 5" autometer tach thats been acting up lately. I have the shift light set at 7000 rpm, and as soon as the light comes on, the needle on the tach jumps from 7000 to 10000 and drops back down. This happens everytime shift light comes on, and only when the light comes on. Anyone ever have that problem?

7000? I hope you don't have the stock engine...

Doesn't your car already have a tach anyways? Whats the need for an oversized tach sitting on your dash?

NO it isnt stock motor, it's an h22a. I bought the tach for 2 reasons, one for the shift light, and 2 because when I went to put in the aftermarket gauge cluster, the previous owner had put some cheap stick-on gauge faces, so mine dont sit right. Sometimes the tach needle will grab on it. Besides, did you have an answer to my question or what?

LUV them big ricer taco-meters HA. HA. I have one and it helps me to shift at exactly 7200 rpms cuz the accord tach is just a solid red line at that point. so F@ck what people think, right?? Any ways check the wire that reads off of your stock tach. It may be coming loose. Happened to me before.

Couldnt agree with you more. Could it possibly be a problem with the MSD box? Do Accords have a prewired tach lead under the hood like the civics? I believe mine is hooked up to either the msd, or a fuel injector, I cant remember.

Yeah there is a blue wire located on one of the distributor plugs. It is the rpm wire and it's what you're supposed to be getting a reading from
