Clarification about the NASA Competition School
This event is not just for those that need licenses. This event is for those that have full or provisional licenses that want to learn race craft and get a jump on those that haven't had the experience.

VIR Full Course Road Racing Competition School
February 16-17, 2002
Eligibility
· Open to all Advanced Level HPDE drivers and instructors wishing to be evaluated for NASA competition licenses.
· Open to all Competition licensed drivers holding current NASA or NASA recognized Competition licenses
· Open to all NASA provisional Competition license holders
Car Preparation
All cars must be prepared to current NASA Club Codes and Regulations (CCR)
road racing specifications which includes requirements such as:
· Approved 6 pt rollcage or better
· Approved 5 point harnesses (Not more than 5 years old)
· Electrical kill switch
· Fire extinguisher or fire system

Driver’s Personal Safety Equipment
All drivers must have and wear the appropriate driver protection as described in the NASA Club Codes and Regulations road racing specifications which includes requirements such as:
· Snell rated SA95 helmet or newer
· Approved Nomex driving suit
· Approved gloves
· Approved Nomex socks
· Closed toed leather shoes or Nomex racing shoes/boots
· Approved Nomex Belaclava (for those with facial hair or long hair)
Prices
· Competition School $299 $349 after Feb. 1, 2002
· License Evaluation $50
Classroom Instruction
· Passing
o setting up faster(straight-line) car for a pass by slower car
o inside, outside, using traffic
· Practical blocking
o on exit of corners
o awareness (using mirrors)
· Braking
· Practice Starts
o Rolling
o Standing
· Rules
o NASA's responsibility to set rules (rationale), drivers' responsibility to know and follow
On Track Exercises
· Passing in corners (inside and out)
· Split track (right and left)
· Door handle to Door handle running with partner
· Pass under braking
· Threshold braking with lane change
· Starts (standing and rolling)
· Practice Race
· Practical Lab - observations from corners by selected racers applying techniques discussed in class using traffic to pass/block
· Instructor on track harassment

Dammit Chris...if only I didn't have thousands of dollars worth of stuff to buy between now and April, I'd be all about this.
