Im picking up a Y1 tranny tommorow, so i was playing around with what my new gearing ratio's are VS my Jdm j1.

I was tweaking tire sizes. It seems like if i run a 205/60/14 tire over say a 165/60/14 that my doing 60mph in 5th my RPM is 300less with the wider tire.

Should tire width have a say in what your RPM is at a certain speed in a certain gear?

Hmm.. If so why? I thought the only tire related thing that mattered was size.

 

What you're failing to notice is that a 205/60/14 is both a taller and wider tire than a 165/60/14, not just wider. The second number in the tire size isn't height, but aspect ratio. Aspect ratio is the ratio of the height of the tire as compared to the width, so in order to make a 14 inch tire with a 205 width and stock height you'd have to make one with a smaller aspect ratio.
