Rotor cap no spark questions. Help!
The car was idling wierd for the past few days....oscialating up to around 900rpm then really low...and today...it was idling, then started iding low, and it just died.
(have plenty of gas)
can you check for spark by just pulling the spark plug cable off and find some bare metal on the chassis while turning it over?
tried this and no spark....
prolly put around 30k on this GSR head since I got it, and it has around 60k when I got it.
I've never replaced the rotor, is it suspect?
any other rotors that are interchangable for my 98 gsr?

The easiest way is to use another spark plug with the method that you described , but make sure the ground on the spark plug is touching a ground. You could have a bad ignitor, coil, or plug wire(s)
i had the same problem w/ the idleing but that was my IACV..BUT my car stalled and wouldent start..so i pulled the cap and rotor off and i came to the cumclusion that i had a weak spark... i tried changing the cap and rotor but didnt work..so i got a new dizzy..the guy who owned the car B4 me put a self tapping screw to hold the rotor on and fucked the whole thing up!!!!!!so i spent the 170 on a distributer (from distributer king)and i was all set..now all i have to do is get that IACV that i got from BNJMN and i will be all set!!!BUMP for u and good luck....and i believe that a B16 dizzy would work fine on a GSR head...but ask around first..
sounds like your distributor died on you... ignitiors usually work or do nto work form what i have been told. i guess you could convert to external coil if you wanted to test that, or you could go and buy a new dist.
but if you want to go external coil let me know i have a new MSD cap and new Accel coil i'm willing to sell what i'd consider rather cheap...

Is the wireharness arcing on the motor at all there maybe short? If not the distributor it could also be the computer try put a your ecu in a friends car with similiar swap, u can try to putt another ecu in yur car, or u can also do this with distributor. Also check check ign fuse (15 amp) in the fuse box in the dash and the engine bay ? Hopefully this works or steers u to the problem but if u find the problem please let me know ok?
