Dashboard Mystery Item
I've been looking at 96 Accords, and I'm curious about something. Embedded in the plastic covering the gauges (centered between the tachometer and speedometer, I believe) is some kind of black rectangular plastic dealie (can't think of another word than that). What is this? An access point?
Not sure exactly what you are talking about, but I'm going to say that you are referring to a block of peice that is used becuase you don't have a feature that would go there. Say, cruise control.
Don't ask why I have this picture....I thought I was cool driving this fast or something at the time....pretty irresponsible driving that fast while taking pictures of your dash. whatever.
if that's what you mean, it's basically nothing. the stupid "maintenence required" thing.......if you stick your ignition key in that hole it'll reset the "maintenence required" thing so it isn't red any more....i think (that's on a 95lx)
Not irresponsible; no way. That's just a fine exhibition of your mastery.
Anyway, yes, that's exactly what I was trying to describe. I find it hard to believe, though, that the average consumer can toggle the maintenance required warning himself, and that this would be the way to do it.

its not really toggling with it... you stick your key in to reset it after you have had your car maintnenced* the little light or color besides it changes color... green yellow then red... red means maintnence needed... then after you do it... you stick your key in to change it back to green... i think thats what i remembered... hope that helps... ( i had one on my 97 Civic EX)
yep thats what its there for...stick your key in it to reset that maintenance light after something has been done to your car.....like a tune up or something

Yeah its not a light, its really just to scare most people into thinking they need to go to the dealer to get it "fixed", well thats my opinion on it anyway. As far as I know, it goes yellow at 6000 miles and red at 7500. Good luck finding an accord, 5th gens are the best

those intervals sound about right. they're for the interval services/regular maintenance of the car.

That's not what it does on 94-97 models. It is simply a maintence required reminder that changes color with miles to remind you when maintenence is due.
