low compression can be rings or head gasket,

rod bearing going out can be from running with low oil pressure, or using nitrous from high cylinder pressures or detanation

if a rod bearing is going out it is only a matter of days before it is toast.

i flattened out a rod bearing with nitrous, when i first heard it start to knock i was leaving the dragstrip about thirty minutes away, by the time i got within a few miles of my house the engine would stop everytime i pressed in the clutch, the break free and run when i let the clutch out for the next gear. but at least it got me home

what if its just low compressoin?
the deal is i have a motor lined up for it already but imma need about a month before that gets swapped in so im hopin this car i get will last that long. the guy said the problem just started adn it has 168,000 on it is stock. he uses it for a communter. do you think 2600 is too much? its a dx 96 with ok interior and pretty good body. he siad the only thing he notices is that when he is goin 80 in the cold it feels funky but not when its warmed up. timing belt, water pump, fuel filter, plugs have been replaced. would a car with 168,000 miles cause these problems already or bein too hard on the car bc it seems he took care of it pretty wel

The low compression can also be due to worn or damaged valve seats.
