Default how can you tell the differnce between a 96 and 98 civic

sup guys,

Im into the EFs so I dont know much bout EG+. Anyways, a buddie of mine bought a civic and was told it was a 98, but theres no paperwork to prove it. He said he thinks it might be a 96 (im not sure why) is there anything I can look for to figure it out? I checked the inside of the door, nothing indicating year. Has paper plates. Its a DX with a D16Y7. I know this isnt a lot of info but ive searched and its all I have.

Thanks
~AMH
