any known 5th gen prelude problems?
Im going to talk to the dealership tomorrow about a 2001 prelude sh with 47,000 miles on it. Are there any problems with preludes that I'll be able to notice before I sign anything?

see because my 99 accord ex auto after I bought it I found out about the awful tranny it has. The third gear just goes boom. So i wanted to find out any problems with thees things before hand.
I was told they have a real heavy clutch is this true?

any car dealer (in colorado springs for sure) will rape you on the price of a prelude. My dad used to love taking them in used because of how much he could turn them around for. I'd go to a private seller.
Dont buy a SS auto, cuz my lude have been sitting in the garage for 4 months due to the shitty tranny. Lucky for me I have a new truck I am driving.
Yep. make sure that it has a manual gearshift and watch out for the 5th gear synchro, if it crunches when changing up into 5th at high revs then the synchro has gone.
This is the only fault I've had on my 99 Prelude in the last 4 years.

when i had my 2001 base model, it would sometimes grind from 2nd to 3rd, and grind when i would downshift from 5th to 3rd. i was told about a faulty tranny that they put in 5th gen ludes, somethin about the gears, but its only what i "heard", if i find anything on it, i'll let you know.
I have a 4th gen lude, which is damn near the same tranny(just a few shorter ratios), and it has 75,000 miles on it with no problems. It all depends how it was treated. I bought mine from an old women when it only had 50,000 miles. So as you can imagine, it wasn't beat on and was always serviced at honda dealers. So my suggestion is just make sure it was treated right by taking it for a test drive, and if there is no grinds, then as long as you take care of it from then on it should be fine.
Make sure it's a real SH. Show us some pics.
I would check to see of the CV boots are not torn. Type SH's are notorious for torn CV boots.
There's not much problems on the 2001 SH's, it's the last year for the Prelude. Most of the bugs are fixed.

I can attest to that!
It seems like a lot of the problems I hear about are transmission related, so make sure you row through the gears pretty good and listen for any grinding problems. Good luck on your purchase, my 97' SH has been great since I got it last April.

well my bro has a 91 prelude his clutch went out when he first bought it in 2001 but since then hes only had to put in a new radiator fan. It is a great machine But I think I might go with the RSX type s because of the 6spd Preludes are a little over priced. The type SH seems to be pretty rare.
