Car shop or myself
iight this is the deal, my 91 crx dont have a working starter, and needs a clutch kit/and or new tranny. My dad wants to take it to this shop where they will probably charge (200 i pay for parts plus probably another 200 for labor) which will come out to around 400 and some change, and end up waiting about 2weeks. Or i just waste 200 for the parts and do it myself, the only problem i got is, i dont have a lift and not alot of tools due to most of them getting rusted out, and also not enough time, mainly being around 1 to 2hrs a day max. What would you guys suggest?
if you dont have time like most of us then take it to a shop. time is money.the way i figure it is if i dont go to work im loosing a days pay that would cost me twice as much to do it myself and not get a pay check.
Bring it to the shop. Not having the rite tools sucks. Trust me I was in your boat like 4 months ago. My main tool was a buttterknife and electrical tape. Just take it to a REPUTABLRE shop.
i gotta disagree with these past 3 posts. i too was in the same situation as you. i had ummm adjustable wrenches, pliers, and cheap screw driver....... well for the price of the shop doing it, i now have a TON of nice tools, and experience. there no better time to learn how to get stuff done. the work is VERY easy. I did this without havign any previous mechanical knowledge, not even brakes. shoot me an AIM@ ferencz03 and i can help thru it all. very easy job, shouldnt take too long either.

I have to agree with you on this one. The starter is a quick fix though. It should only take you about 15 minutes.

Take it to the shop, because if you dont have all the tools, or even a lift sucks because lefting that tranny up and trying to put a bolt in sucks. I know I did one myself, but it took me like two days to do that bitch and an acking arm. I think I drop that tranny like 5 or 6 times on my arm so yes. I would take it to the shop or just ask some friends for tools and maybe some help if they can

Umm, I think u should shop it. All I can tell you, is that first time doing a tranny, its hard. Bolts that have never been broken, you dont know the shortcuts, and also u dont have the proper tools, or the time to go at it. But after that first time its a breeze. Its not so much a hard job, its just complex and tedious. The tranny and clutch part is fairly easy. Its the removing and installation of all the random things attached, and the removing and installation of the trans itself. Air tools = your friend for: axle hub nut, lower ball joint castle nuts, and that fork that bolts up to the lower control arm. Plus u gotta add at least 2-3 hours for whatever can (and ALWAYS will) go wrong.
