97 Honda accord borken can anyone trouble shoot this Problem?
I have a 97 honda accord that was acting normal. I was waiting for someone when i notcied my accord (automatic) started racing to 4000 rpm while in the park position. I also noticed that the cars temp gauge fell to 0 and didn't seem to be working. So i don'tm turn it off but instead try to get it home (which is 5 minutes away). I take it out of park and it shoots off like a rocket. it drives like normal the only problem is if i was to come to a complete stop and then let go of the brake the car would take off. Normally when you let go of the brake as all of us know the car would creep slowly at 1 mile and hour but now it moves like 10-15 miles an hour. the car even does this in reverse. I couldn't figure out what it was at all. also When i got home and turned the car off i tried to start it again it didn't start at all it cranked, but wouldn't crank over. If anyone could solve this problem that would be good thanks in advance.
thanks alot, it seemed like such a specific problem that i figure a search wouldn't work. But don't bore me to death with this search stuff and thanks. if you find this in the search link it to this post. cause i know i didn;t find it in the search. so thanks for nothing .
Sounds like the throttle plate is getting stuck open. Take off the intake tube and slowly spray throttle body cleaner into the throttle body, or just try cleaning around where the throttle plate moves, making sure it is free of obstruction.
It could also be a sticking gas pedal, try lubricating it.
