Default GT35R oil pressure...

I was told that if you are running a GT35r you have to have lower oil pressure then just taping it from the back of the block? Someone said to put a nitrous jet in the feed like to lessen it... Can anyone help me on this of what to do and what oil pressure I need to be at?

From what I've read, the GT series come w/ an oil restrictor built into the CHRA already, so you should just run a -3 line like normal.

If someone was willing to do a test, by putting an oil pressure gauge somehow tapped into the housing, then we could figure out if we need extra restrictors or not for sure.

Garrett reccomends that you have about 12psi of oil pressure into the turbo at idle, and no more then 40psi at WOT. If it is more then that you will get blow by past the seals.

Did you guys have to run the coolant lines to the turbo?

For the GT35R, it is very advisable to run the coolant lines to the turbo. This is actually advisable for any steel ball-bearing CHRA turbo. Because the turbo bearings are not a "floater" design, in which they depend upon a "layer" of oil to float the bearing like most turbos, a restrictor of .0008mm is needed in order to restrict oil to only 22psi of pressure, on a constant basis. That is why the small apeture. Any more, and you WILL destroy the CHRA in which it would cost just as much to rebuild the turbo as it would be to get a new one.

On steel Ball-bearing turbos, they do just that; run on steel bearings that are lubricatedby some oil, and cooled by the water lines so as not to overheat itself and ruin the CHRA. The Steel bearings have a distinctive noise, (which we love) but are a bit more delicate when it comes to the oil pressure.

Precision BB provide a restictor, ATP Turbo has a kit that can be used.

.0008 mm? I know you're very knowledgeable about turbos, but that's an insanely small restrictor, you'd be lucky to even see the hole. I'm confused.

So only the precisions come with a restrictor already in? I will look into the restictor from atpturbo.com but do the GT series dont? I wanna make sure before I go buy the restrictor?

My GT28R already came with a restrctor on the oil inlet hole. Do I still need to get a restrictor from ATP?

its the other way around. Garrett cartridge.

all Garrett GT cartridges have a built in oil restrictor even ours and ATP's

we have seen great results when using a .060" restrictor on anything from 60-110psi and a .050" above 110psi(rotary mostly).
i wouldnt recommend using the above mentioned .0008mm restrictor (a human hair is appx .04 mm at best) as this will limit the volume of oil to the point of starvation.
hope this helps

Sorry about that.... typeed too mannnny 000000 I meant .080. But it's true, .050-.070 is fine. Some of the precisions come with a restrictor KIT, but it is an additional cost..

such animosity for a typo!!

Okay, so my GT28R came looking like this

http://70.105.206.36:870/oilfeed.JPG <-- If pic goes retarded

Do I still need a restrictor or is that it? I really don't want to go blowing the seals on a brand new turbo. Thanks.

You need to put a restrictor on that GT28R.......I talked to Precision turbo, and they said yu have to have atleast 1/4" id coolant lines running to the CHRA so the CHRA will live.Precision includes the restrictor,ATP does not,you have to order with the turbo and don't foprget to order the GTR drain line flange as well!I love my GT30R,best turbo I ever had!

BTW,cheapturbo guy,why do you guys only give a 90 day warranty??Turbonetics and Precision and ITS give 1 year full warranty.....you guys offer a "rebuilders" 90 day warranty. Some guys don't even install their turbo within 90 days.....
If you guys offered a decent warranty, you will sell more turbos!

Does anyone has coolent line setup?
I have GT35R and I want to know how people run their coolent lines. The atp restrictor seems small.
