Default Removing sunroof

Hey,
Yet another weight reduction for my GSR, the removal of the sunroof, I figure it'll save me 50 pounds or so. I can get it down and out fine, but how hard would it be to weld a sheet of sheet metal in its place, and get it to look like the sunroof was never there? Any idea how much a body shop would charge for it? Anyone tried it?

Thanks in advance

If it's done right to the point that it looks like it was never there, then I'm sure there wouldn't be any problem selling the car.

However, getting a piece of sheet metal to conform to the gentle compound curve of the roof would probably take quite a bit of work. It would also probably take quite a bit of Bondo to get it just right.

You might consider just securing a piece of metal, painted to match the car, and with a rubber molding around the edge to make it look like a sunroof panel (like on CRX's and stuff, instead of the Integra's glass moonroof panel), but have it fixed, with no motorized mechanisms or all the tracks and stuff inside. If you wanted you could try to get an RS or ITR headliner panel to use on the inside.

taking it out may also effect the stiffness and safety of ur car. that sunroof is alot thicker than a thin piece of sheet metal.

get a roof skin to a gsr w/o a sunroof... if such a thing exists... then spot weld it to your frame after removing the old roof... a bit more involved but easier than hacking and putting bondo on a part that will crush in a collision.

You could order panel number 8 for the sheet metal and replace the roof.

The diagram shows the sunroof, but this is for an ITR. It's not cheap.

The sunroof glass is not a structural member of the car.

car is going to be a track *****. I was thinking of welding up a sheet of metal, and then welding in support rails, if that is possible to make it strong enough. Ethire way, if i remove it, i want less weight, and more structural support
