Default stuck in fifth

hey whats up guys...

I changed my oil yesterday and so afterward i took my car for a little spin. I have a 1988 HF w/ a B18A and an ls tranny. I was beating on it a little on the highway and i was doing some pretty aggresive 4th to 5ths, but not any harder then i usually do it. Anyway, I had it in 4th at about 6800 rpm and went to shift into 5th and it took a little more then it usually does to get it in gear. Once I got it in fifth though it wouldnt come out. I drove for a little while, about 2 miles, and then pushed the clutch in and out and just played with the gear shifter...after a while it slipped out after i tweaked the gear selector around a bit.

Before all this my 2nd 4th and reverse were tricky to get into. I got used to it but my bro always missed those gears (not while ******* it, just putting around) but i never had problems with the odd gears (1st 3rd 5th) until yeasterday....anyideas on what happened.

I think that i just torqued my shift linkage funny and that it kind of buckled. Oh yea, 2nd 4th and reverse problems are result of my shift linkage...its welded a little crooked.

sorry so long but any ideas are welcome thanks a lot and have a great new year!

It sounds like the shift linkage is tweaked more than it was when you welded it. I would remove it and have it welded correctly or buy a new linkage.

your tranny could also be loose, thats what my problem was,as stupid as it sounds.i woud always grind second gear no matter what rpm.then i was feeling around the back and there it was 2 missing bolts and one more on the way

oh thats dangerous...

how many bolts are there that hold the tranny to the block?

ill check when i get off work. thanks again.

would that result in some movement in the shifter under heavy acceleration also?

thanks again man

He also has a 1988 HF...its the Blue one that he never takes out. He just built a 240...the gold one with no front bumper and the huge fmic....just curious to see if you have seen us around.
