do i really need a usdm ecu to pass emissions
i live in texas. i have to have my car tested on an emissions dyno and they stick a sniffer in the exhaust. it is not too hard to pass, like the california emissions test is.
i have a b16 with all smog stuff hooked up. will i be OK with a jdm p30?
does the jdm ecu eliminate something important or anything like that, or is the reason that cali people cant pass with a jdm ecu only because it wont pass visual?
i dont have either ecu yet i will but an ecu today and i would like to get what would be best suited for my engine.

if you are going to a REF, your ECU better have the USDM sticker on it at the least. I had a H22 eg and used a JDM P13 ecu but I had a USDM cover on it so it looked USDM. I passed with flying colors and this was at the REF to make the car street legal.
I know JDM ECU's should pass, its the visual that would not (ONLY if you get someone who knows what they are looking for).
good luck
