Did i bend a valve?
I have a 87 honda prelude with a b20a3 dohc fi engine in it. I was doing the timing belt and it slipped off a few teeth i got it back to where iu though it should be and tired to start it and it would not start. I found out that i was still off a couple of teeth so i got it all back on and running but it dies when idiling and is smokeing white smoke. It was running fine before i started doing the belt it was just time for a new one. Does this sound like a bent valve if so what is a resonable amount to pay somebody to put a new head on i know i can get a rebulit head for 250. but don't want to get screwed on labor. thanks in advance for any info

WTF? Not valve cover, VALVE. It does sound like some valves are bent, but do a compression test and you'll know for sure...

you're drunk at 11 in the morning??
anyways, it does sound like it could be a bent valve or two. like hawkze said, the best thing you can do right now is to get a compression test. and no one wants to get screwed on labor - thats just part of the game - learn to do it yourself, have buddies that will do it for beer and pizza, or pay someone your hard earned money. good luck.

I think iam probably gone to try and do it myself i called are shop here in town and they said it is 7and a half hours labor(400 bucks). And is it gone to hurt it to dirve it for a couple of weeks before i fix it?
it may mess up more of the head. I dont think it will do anthing to the lower end of the motor but if you have another car i would use the other car
I will probaly only drive it when abostley neccesary. Iam right in saying you can rebulid a head right? It is proably cheeper to rebulid mine then to buy a already rebulit one. I don't know much about honda's i have always been around chevy so iam new to this sorry fo all the questions.
if you can get a rebuilt head for 200 thats cheap. It depends on what you want to rebuld. You can just buy new valves and put in if nothing got messed up with the head itself.
I did the comperssion test to do and was 145 on the first three and on the fourth it was zero. So iam going to pull my head off twmr. Does anybody have any tips for me. It doesn't look that hard and i download a manually. Thanks again for all the info it has been a big help.
