My Integra got t-boned and I've been on the search for a new car. I finally found a nice 91 Integra in Chula Vista, CA, about 270 miles from Las Vegas where I live. The guy is advertising a very good deal (almost too good), and it comes with a brand new, rebuilt, swapped b16 from a Civic SI. I would post a link... but the price is kinda cheap and I am really hoping to get the car, but I don't have enough money to compete. Anyway, here's the description he gave:

Now this is where I need help.

I would love to go pick up the car, but it's hard to tell the mechanical condition w/ a swap. This guy sounds legit, yet shady at the same time, but almost too bold to strike me as a thief. If there is anybody close to the area, could you check it out for me. If so, I'd be willing to give a little money for your time if I do buy the car.

I already have approval for a loan from my parents and for the drive to pick it up, I just wanna make sure everything's cool before I go, because I currently have no vehicle. I haven't seen any tegs here in Vegas, so I'm really anxious to this opportunity.

check it out ureself for peice of mind. there are plenty of mechanic shops in chula vista that can check out that car for u.

Time and knowing the area are difficult for me, I've only been to CA one time to go to Six Flags. If I drive out there it would ideally be to sign papers and pay the money, and I don't know any of the shops (or how good they are) in the area. Thx though.

Thanks for looking out, I might have someone out there so I'm not trippin. Worst comes to worse I'll have to do it myself, I was just hoping for a lil help.

 

to be honest.. It would be worth your time and money to go check it out for yourself. you cant tell by someone else's opinion because nobody thinks alike..it might be in good condition to him, but not to you.. If you are really interested, drive out there with a friend, check the car out, take it for a drive, take it to a mechanic if you want, and really inspect the car inside and out. Then you will know if you really want the car.. then buy it right there.. and if it turns out too good to be true, atleast you know you didnt miss out.

**** it's your money.. id wanna be 100% satisfied.

I hear you on that... and thanks for taking the time to contact me outside H-T. The only things I'm concerned with are the basics. I would hate to drive out there and find out the thing runs like a pile of garbage or misfires or wasn't swapped correctly. Or maybe the other side has a big hole in the door. No, I would drive the car around and do the best inspection I can with my knowledge. I guess what I'm scared of is that there is going to be something seriously wrong (and easily noticeable) with the car, and that's why I would want someone to check it out. I don't expect a full inspection + report, more just a confirmation that it drives decent and looks okay. Pictures only do so much justice.

Sorry if I'm not being clear enough, it's hard to explain what I'm thinking sometimes.

i live in 91911, but i dont think it would be fair to u to base your sole opinion on me to buy a car. i think u should take a road trip down here to see it for yourself. but who knows, there might be a few other members in the area that would think otherwise...

also, its kinda raining really hard right now. i might be able to take several pics of whatever u want and maybe take it for a test drive on the local straightaway (olympic pkwy). just let me know the info... chris

 

I see where you are coming from in that you don't want to come all the way out here just to find out that the guy was lying to you, and the car is a POS. I will take a look at the car for you and make sure it runs, and that it is what he says it is, but I would expect that you come out and make the final choice for yourself.

Car shoppin is always fun even if its not for me.. =p. but yeh i agree to what others said... maybe after a few of us check it out and say its legit, THEN you should come down for your final decision. If we all say its crap then... your choice to come down here or not... SD is always a fun place to be anyway

Wow! I got a lot of feedback today. I like the idea of getting more pictures or having someone test drive it just to know it's not a POS. I plan on travelling down and I may even take a mechanic w/ me (i have my fingers crossed) but this won't happen just yet. I want to get into contact w/ the guy and make sure I get both the vin of the car and the vin of the motor to make sure neither is stolen. Thanks to everyone though! I will let you know as things progress, I will probably give him a call today around lunchtime.
