what is wrong with my "maintenance required" light?
It's cold in NY and the light just went crazy today.. It was never on but today it was on most of the time when I was driving home. It's not the usual sequence(like when you turn your engine on it flashes a few times), it ONLY comes one when I take a small dip, or on a bumpy road. There's no pattern of when it will come on.. sometimes it would just keep flashing really fast when the road is bumpy, and sometimes it would stay on the off, on and off, therefore patternless. Then I stopped the car and turned the engine on again, the "MaintR" light was off.. once I started to drive and hit bumps/ and little dips on roads, it happend again. Help. something is loose????? electrical?... driving me nuts..
ok... next to your right foot under the dash will be a button, turn the car on while holding that down for a bit and then turn the car off then on again. If that doesn't fix it then its probably a connection somewhere.
if it's the connection, where should I look? The light going on and off is annoying... ..
and when this "maint R" light is on? what does it actually mean? does it mean that you have an equipment failure? or is it just a reminder of getting your car a regular checkup?

You dont have to go to the dearlership for a "Maint R" light. It means maintenance required, as in suggesting to get your oil changed. (keeping in mind that we do not have any oil gauges stock) Check your oil level, you oil may be low and thats the reason why it's not on when you sit still and when you are on bumpy roads because it may slosh around. If it wont reset using the button under the dash then you will have to reset it using a scanner, but still dont "have to" go to the dealer. Or as 99whitegsr said, it could be a loose connection as well. Good luck!
