I'm not sure about what motor I have, and where is my engine model number located?
I'm trying to locate my engine model number does any one know where it is located? I'm pretty sure I have the 1.5L motor but there is more than one offered. I've surfed a few websites and some say the 70HP 1.5L motor and some say the 90HP 1.5L motor. Also I've looked at few other peoples 4G civics and i've found a few differences on mine. Like my car came with vinyl seats, the front brakes are the ones that are offered on the All-wheel drive civic wagon (larger than stock brakes )and no rear area speaker mounts,or the optional trunk cover and mounting brackets. I'm not sure what options were offered for my car at the time it was purchased, but i did find out that it was manifactured in Canada.Which I don't know if that has any thing to do with the differences in my car. Any way I'm trying to find out what motor is in my car. I have a 1991 civic 4-speed. Any body have any suggestions? By the way there is no owners manuel in the car , so no wise cracks about looking in the Owners Manuel!
you have a d15b....the model # is located next to the exhaust manifold below the coolant hose
Ok,which one there are a few d15b's.(d15b2, d15b3.....)Do i have to remove the heat shield to see it?I see a serial #.Could you be more secific please?
ok,facing the engine my radiator hose attached to the motor is on the left.To the left of that is a number (one letter then 8#'s following it)writen vertically there is nothing written above it. The is almost butted up to the valve cover, and then the heat shield is a little farther left of the number. I can see something written behind the heat shield but i don't know what it is(DM9-6)any way I don't no where else to look but behind the heat shield in the area between the exhaust header and the valve cover(on the block).Any way any other suggestions? Thanks for any info.
If you are looking at the exhaust manifold, go to the left.
The engine model number is stanped in the block near the tranny.
It will be a B15B_, the B1 is the STD engine (70 hp), the B2 is the DX (90 hp).
Another way to tell is the tranny. If you have 4 spds, you have a STD, if you have a 5 spd, or an automatic, then it is a DX.

Actually, I just went out to the parking lot and looked, no dice! It wasn't where they usually are!
So the easy way is that you have a 4 spd manual. That only comes on the STD hatchback (same as I have).
