Default Where do I check the automatic transmission fluid ('88 S model)?

I can't find the dipstick anywhere. I found two other things... a metal nut labled "ATF" that peaks into the tranny, but it has no dipstick and a rubber cap that removes and also peaks into the tranny, but again it's not a dipstick. Am I missing something here?

Maybe the air resonators running every which way are blocking it, but it's there, on the passenger side and waaaaaay down there. It's a complete pain to get to... I can barely get my hand between the radiator and the hoses and the tranny... which is why I took off the resonator piece running along the front of the car.

Where is it in proximity to the starter? E.g. in front to the passenger side of...?

It is in front of the starter, below the battery.
I'm looking for a picture, but can't find one. The lower radiator hose comes out of the radiator and makes a bend upwards to clear the transmission. Directly below that bending section is the dipstick hole. It sounds like yours may be missing the stick. The hole faces the sky.

Thanks, that description was excellent. I found it okay. If there is no showing fluid at all, it's probably down pretty low, eh? I'll probably just change it out tomorrow rather than filling it. Thanks again!

good luck getting the drain bolt off!
Last time I did a drain and fill on the '88, it was difficult to read the level, even when I had filled it to capacity. Oh well, hope yours goes better. I'd recommend using a hose and sucking it out. It tastes excellent.
