Tuning the B16A2 JDM Sol SiR
Hi,
I'm looking to push power utpo 200bhp whilst keeping my B16A2 JDM SiR Sol completely NA (stock 168bhp) and i've made a few purchases to achieve this. I've bought the Hondata S100 ecu, CTR cams, DC 4-2-1 header and denso iridiums (all yet to be fitted) - my current setup at the moment is a straight-through exhaust w/decat, CAI, magnecor leads and fuelcat (this ups fuel octane rating to the JDM standard 100RON). I'm trying to keep all my costs down to an absolute minimum - I want to keep it completely as a street car (no track), with normal idle and as OEM Honda as possible, whilst keeping (and dramatically improving) my bottom end and increasing top end. 200bhp would make me
but 200whp would make me
!!
1) I'm looking to have the engine head skimmed, ported and polished - should I go for the OEM Honda gasket kit or for an uprated head gasket set? Also, will an OEM timing belt do aswell?
2) I've been told that at the very minimum i should upgrade the valve springs for ITR ones to avoid the possibility of valve float when installing the cam. Can i get away with the existing stock springs and retainers without replacing them or is it wise at the very least to change the valve springs?
3) Is it worth extrude hone porting my exisiting intake manifold and boring the TB? Whats a good size bore for all the mods i've listed? 68mm?
4) I'm also considering purchasing some ITR con-rods and pistons - this will increase compression but is it worth since i'll only be running the CTR cam? Will i gain significant power throughout the power band, top end or none since i have a mildish cam? If i do install rods/pistons, will i have to replace the clutch/trans or can i get away with it?? What other expense is invloved? Can i run my stock cam gears with the CTR cam?
5) Fitting a lightened flywheel - will this disrupt idle?? i've heard it can be a pain in the a$$ to drive in traffic.. is this true? is it worth it?
I've viewed Omniman's 200whp project on the B16.
thanks.

Ok, will fitting ITR pistons generate me more power? If so, will it be through whole RPM range? I'm only fitting mild cams from the CTR! Is it worth it with this type pf cam?
Also, for this setup will a OEM head gasket and OEM timing belt be ok?

You will lose power. The P30 pistons in your B16 now have higher compression than the ITR pistons.

You're only looking for 200bhp?
In that case, don't even worry about the bottom end. Get some more aggressive cams, good i/h/e, good intake manifold, and maybe mill the head a little bit.
Then get tuned with a higher rev-limit, because the stock 8200 RPM limit will most-likely be too low.
But, if you're hell-bent on messing with the bottom-end, get some CTR pistons. You'll have to shave off 1mm off both sides of the rod.
Good luck.
