94-97 5th Gen ATF
My friend has a '97 LX auto sedan, and we're going to do both of his axles soon. part of the process involves draining the ATF, so we are wondering what kind of ATF we should use.
I know my 98-02 6th gen REQUIRES Honda ATF, or else the transmission would slip. Hoever, I vaguely remember seeing that the older 94-97 5th gens used dexron III (recommended).
So, what ATF is required/recommended for 5th gens? Dexron III or Honda ATF? What does it say in the Helms service manual?

Additive?
Additive?
I know in my owners manual, it says 96-97 (maybe even 95-97) use Honda ATF, and 94-95 (or just 94) use some type of engine oil. Just go with Honda ATF for the smoothest shifts IMO, if it's stock it can't be a bad thing (most of the time). I'll go look in my helms book real fast tho just to be sure.
Yeah Helms (for a 96 accord) says use Honda ATF or "an equivalent DEXRON II Automatic Transmission Fluid (ATF)". I'd just go with the Honda ATF though. Good luck with it!
