CRX bumper on civic hatchback
Can you put an 89 crx bumper onto an 89 civic hatchback?
Do the front and rear bumpers from the crx's fit onto the hatchbacks? Any reason why this wouldn't work? Are they different dimensions?

Simple Answer:
No.
Reasons Why:
The CRX's front bumper lines up directly to the headlights. There is no middle piece for it between the bumper and the headlights like the Civic Hatchback and Sedan of the same years have. You can custom modify this but there is not much of a point. It has been done but is not suggested because it is more work for no apparent gain. Please look at the figures below to see the differences between the bumpers.

My buddy's ol 90 civic had CRX front bumper ,but he had to replace the fenders to make it fit right. He did this to put on a VIS front kit, which was very ugly.
Well i'm buying a 89 civic SI with a body kit on it, and I want to race this car in HS for autocross so i can't have aftermarket bumpers on it. GAY, I KNOW, but I guess a body kit could give me more downforce or something. I have some CRX bumpers laying around, but no civic hatch bumpers, and to buy them off ebay would cost about 100 bucks.
I guess I'll have to check it out. Does the rear bumper from the CRX fit onto a Civic?

yes it works. to fit properly you need the bumper support and the fenders.
and if you use a 88-89 crx bumper, they are damn near exactly the same as hatchbacks' bumper. you will look dumb and probably cry as crx forum demonstrated
so use a 90-91 crx bumper, which has the fake vents and angles out much much more than a 88-89 crx or the hatch's which angles slightly inwards

A CRX bumper isn't legal in HS either, because it never came stock on a Civic.

No. They are completely different.

True the crx bumper isn't legal in HS, BUT it will pass inspection where I race and that's all I care about. A crx bumper isn't going to give me an advantage over the civic bumper, so i'm not cheating anybody out in my local autocross. Sure at the national level somebody would bitch, but at the local level they wouldn't.
I guess i'll just see how it lines up, i don't mind making mounting brackets for it either, as long as it sits on the car, and functions like a bumper cover does.

89 rex bumper on 89 civic that doesnt work at all.

if you want to use the crx bumper on the civic..you can..but you will need to have to use the crx fenders also..after doing so..you will be eliminating the front bumper filler that was originally for the civic bumper..i ahve done it to my 89 HB b4..and this goes vice vesa for a civic bumper into a crx.
People usually don't search on honda-tech, because there is a lot of BS posts, and poorly named threads that have nothing to do with the thread topic. It's hard to search through all the crap to find what you want. It's a message board, not an archive. It's usually easier to ask questions over again. Takes me 5 min to help somebody out each day, not a big deal to me.

This was the gayest post I have ever read on the internet. Congratulations!!!
I have 3 crx's RETARD, I'm asking about the crx bumper cuz I have crx bumpers laying around, I don't have a civic hatch bumper laying around. Some people don't go on ebay and buy every part they need, they try to find them cheaper.

just out of curiosity why not make a splitter? if it is just a matter of downforce then why a CRX bumper? I know you said you have a bunch lying around but do they provide more downforce? they look damn near the same to me.
Well I can't use a splitter for HS autocross, and I need something that looks stock, so either a civic or CRX bumper, because this car came with some ugly body kit, that will definately bump me out of the stock class in my local autocross group.

why not? I dont know the rules.

you can do it, i have.
you swa fenders, bumper beam mounts, fender brackets, and of course the bumpers themselves. CRx's have the lower plastic trim, and that doesnt look right, but everything bolts up. Even the belt mouldin will swap between fenders. You could graft in the lower part of a HB fender to get the right look, or maybe a WW RS kit since it replace the lower plastic moulding.

Well the H Stock class for autocross doesn't allow you to run a body kit, because of the benefits of weight, and probably downforce that you could gain by going aftermarket. the Street Touring Class STS, would allow for a body kit, but I want to stay in H Stock. Legally you need to have the same bumper on the car that came with that car, so a CRX bumper would not work, BUT would give the appearance of a stock bumper to most people.
I will probably end up just buying some bumper covers off ebay, because this sounds like a lot of work using the fender, bumper support, and bumper cover. Plus I don't have 2 not rusted crx fenders. Thanks for the help guys, I'll post how this bumper situation ends up for me.

really it not that hard nor does it take that long to change 2 fenders, front bumper, reinforcement bar, corner lamps from a crx to a civic..plus you don't need to change the hood cause it the same for either crx/civic HB. but with the crx fender, if you happen to be missing the little plastic cover on the very bottom of the fender next to the door, then it jsut gonna show an ugly missing portion or gap you can say.
but if you need an 89 civic HB front bumper cover..i have a pretty much brand new one (flat black) for $25+s/h

If you read a few posts back RICERBOY, I said I was going to "try it" and repost how it turned out.

I know it's not hard to change the 2 fenders, lights, and bumper, but the problem is that i don't have 2 good crx fenders to do the swap, also this car that I bought has a rediculously expensive laborghini diablo orange paint job, and to pass tech inspection (where I race) I would only need the bumpers, if I use crx bumpers then the car would look very goofy, but thanks for your advice.
