Tranny situation...need your advise HT
okay here goes...i purchased a tranny from a friend of a friend about 2 months ago...it was an LS tranny for $200 and he said it was in good shape no grinds...my friend does all my work on my car that i just bought from him and he couldnt get around to putting the tranny in for about a month. we finally go to do it and he looks at the threads in the tranny housing where the tranny bolts up to the passenger side mount and to his and my suprise...THE THREADS ARE HALF WAY STRIPPED!
i called the kid he said he had no idea gave me the whole nine. My friend said that it looks like either somebody beat the **** out of the tranny or they had a problem getting it out...hes also doing me this service of putting the tranny in for free so he said hes only doing it once and thats understandable. Heres the Problem...my friend said that if things work out well with another deal on another tranny hes supposed to get...he will give me a 2000 b16 tranny that i know is good because ive driven it in the Si it was in...BUT thats if things work out with him OR he said i can risk it and get longer bolts that have thread further down and put in the tranny risking that its bad and then have to pay somebody else to take it out and get another tranny and all that bullshit.
General Consensus:
Wait and see what happens wit the B16 tranny and hope that goes good
OR
Risk it and put the LS tranny in with longer bolts because the B16 tranny might not be available and bend over and take it in the tailpipe if the trannys fucked
oh yea and i forgot the car is not at my house its at a friends house and his dad wants me to get the car out of their ASAP because its been there for a month and a half already...
and by the way im not a little bitch...i know i havent said anything about this kid who sold me the tranny...i got a little surprise for him
WHAT DO I DO!?

How about going to pepboys and getting a tap and die set
that way you can reuse the tranny bolts
nothing to fret about

im not too advanced yet with this ****...i tried to take the tranny out...i thought u take the axle out by taking the clamp off the boot and then my friend comes over and says u broke the axle so yea...and plus ill still have to buy a new tranny on my own with money i dont have
I had a similar problem with the driver side mount
the top 2 holes that the mount bracket screws into were FUBARed. What you have to do is install what is called Helicoil. It is pretty easy but the kit to do it is about $50 bucks or a little more so if you can find someone with a kit that is better. You will also need a tap and die set as well. First you take a tap BIGGER than the standard bolt hole (the Helicoil kit will tell you what size) then you install the Helicoil (basically new threads) cover it with thread lock and screw it into the hole you just made with the tap. You can find a kit that has the exact same threads out there as the OEM bolts if you look around a little. That is how you can fix the bolt holes that is how I fixed mine. Also in case you wonder the Helicoil threads are stronger than the oem ones that are in the block because the helicoils are typically made of steel if I remember and your block is soft aluminum. Just a little info I thought I would pass on in case you were going to try to use that tranny.
