Default EF reliability

How reliable are civic ef's? I might be picking up this: as a first car

91 EF
Engine:
JDM B16A w/ YS1 Trans
3 inch Intake w/ Stock Air box modified (Similair to a Comptech Ice Box)
Skunk2 Intake Manifold
B&M FPR w/ Gauge
Apexi World Sport Exhaust w/ Test Pipe

Exterior:
Ground Control Coilovers
Cross Drilled front rotors
New Rear Drums

bodys got 150,000 miles on it, new engines got about 60k on it.

I need this to be reliable for getting to work, think this will be fine? anything i should have the mechanic check specifically before i buy it?

its going to explode instantly.

jk

the intake manifold is changed, make sure it idles ok.

jdm climate control, with temp thermostat dial? did he use the rest of the components so it actually works correctly?

make sure your heat and a/c work, cause its very possible he didnt do it right. usdm cars have manual cable temp system, not electric like the jdm cars.

I would get something slower as your first car, get some experience driving (assuming you are a relatively new driver, if not ignor this) a slower car then go get something with a little quicker.....but I think it would be a reliable car....

im not a new driver, been driving parents cars for 2 years. Personally i want something faster

only thing i'm worried about is if something aftermarket (like the b16 engine) goes out, that it would take a while to fix...

b16 aftermarket? a b16 is just as reliable as the stock motor and just as easy to repair.

parts are everywhere for the B16 92-93 gsr B17, 94-97 del sol vtec and 99-00 civic Si all USDM models. No need to worry about getting parts or getting it repaired. If you like it buy it.

I would seriously do a compression test on the motor. It could have been thrashed hard as hearing your engine go into vtec land can be habit forming
