I'm interested in this too, I either a) burn through or b) can't get a good bead.

Get some scraps and set the amps first! Start low to high.. I used to do high to low but its not the proper way to do it..

i used a lincon welder at school (but sure of the model number) but with sheet metal i was at (A) For Voltage and my wirespeed was at 75-100 and the argon tank was open to 20 when the trigger was held. That might help a little

Merry Christmas to ALL

Not really sure off hand, but its thick enough where if you turn the settings right, you will not have a problem really. Just start and stop often so the pipe does not get to hot, let it cool down and reweld.

i've welded up three sets of turbo piping in the last month with no problems.had to play with the settings a little, but no different than welding anything else.don't remember what gauge pipe this was-it's whatever you get from Advance when you order Dynomax mandrel bends.
i had the heat set a little higher than needed.this way i could move pretty fast, get good penetration still, but have less bead to grind off later(i smoothed all the welds so the pipes look like one piece).i'm a welding dummy-although i've never had anything break-so if i'm giving any wrong info, please feel free to correct me.

most stainless and mildsteel bends are 14 and 16 gauge

And I dont know if it's just me, but I absolutely suck *** at making piping fit. My charge piping fits like ***, my downpipe fits like ***. I just like to think it's because it's a crx, and they have no ******* space.

i have to disagree!in the next couple weeks i'll post some pics of a CRX i just did-turbo B16 with FMIC and 2.5" downpipe.turned out very well.space is at a premium on those cars with a B-motor in them.some kind of aftermarket front crossmember helps big time in making room for everything.
customer is waiting on his engine management stuff to arrive.after that i'll be installing everything for good, and i'll take pics.
as far as fitment,it just takes patience to make everything work well.this was the first EF i've done, and i ended up trashing everything and starting over with the charge pipes after my first arangement worked horribly.

16 gauge is common on most pipes

haha, yea, I did this to one of the welds on my charge piping, but I grinded a lil too much and made a hole...so I went to reweld over it, and ****, it would burn through in an instant because the metal was paper thin. I'm going to have to watch how much I grind.

Well I'm glad to hear your first set worked out horribly. Definitely post the pics, I just have a hard time cutting it right and having good gaps to weld. The piping on there now works, but I'm going to try to clean it up a little more over the next few days. I redid my downpipe too, but it looks SO horrible, I'm just going to wrap the whole thing in heat wrap to hide it, LOL

Same here but in my case I think a better tool would help me out, what are you using to cut pieces ?
