yeah dont really know too much here.. but which would be better to go with? h22 or h23 for a turbo setup? i was thinkin h22 because i wont have the turbo for a while and might as well have vtec handy but i think i recall people saying 23s are better for turbo.. what should i do? i mean i love vtec.. does it REALLY make a biog difference..t hanks

wellto give you a general idea of the main differences:

H22A (VTEC) with turbo = harder to tune but you'll make more power

H23 (NON-VTEC) with turbo = easier to tune but you'll make less power

If you want to add a high psi turbo, go with a larger engine - 2.3L.

we are only talking about a difference of .1L, not something like a 1.6L vs 3.0L. in this case of 2.2L VTEC vs 2.3L, Non-VTEC the VTEC would win.

I think maybe the reason the H23 doesnt make as much power is cause it doesn't "inhale" as well as the H22. the H22 VTEC can inhale a lot more air than the H23 Non-VTEC, obviously because of the different cam profiles. Also the H23 has a lower redline (6500)

I've seen HP numbers for the H23 vs the H22 VTEC with the same PSI level, and the H22 always had the higher HP #'s

have you given any thought to upgrading your bottom end?

some people say different things about how much boost the stock H22 can take, but for me I say that 8-9 PSI is the limit for the stock with "good tuning". but of course thats me.

EDIT if you are gonna be boosting 10-15 PSI I would worry about replacing the stock cams until AFTER you've built the bottom end. some things you'll have to do are:

-Resleeve the block
-Turbo pistons & rings
-Rods
-head bolts

am I leaving anything out?

10 PSI is possible on the H22A1 - you will want to run a # or two less on the H22A4

It's tricky getting the fuel settings to match up right when vtec switches. Plus h22's are generally more expensive... w/ an h23 you can get it sleeved to take the 15/16 psi you want to run on "weekends". IMO 10psi is a very respectable amount of boost... 6psi street is enough for me. And the h22a4 is open deck, watch the boost
