Default tachometer: rev'ing passed stock

So here i am about to install an h22 in a 94 accord. After programming the p13 chip and being able to reach an 8500 redline, what will come of the stock tach gauge after 8000rpm? Was wondering if the needle would pass that point and make judging the next 500rpm easy or if it would just stop dead. If she floats by, nice. If there's an alternative, nicer. Has anyone upgraded their stock-positioned tach to 9k, 10k even?

Its alot more than 250, more like 500, atleast mine was, my autometer reads correctly. Ive seen hybrid accord owners on some other boards talking about how shifting at 8k is the best performance wise, but its actually about 7600 where they are shifting. The stock tach sucks big time.

BTW i hope u dont plan on revving a stock H22 to 8500...

thanks,
just as i suspected, a rebuild. that being said, is there any point in reprogramming with spoon? all i really wanted to do was abolish the speed limiter on the JDM H22. The lower vtec engage(5000, RL:8500) sounded interesting as well, or should the stock powerband just not be messed with unless the engine is rebuilt?

Hondasport94, also, was curious which autometer product you're using, or is it not a car/engine specific game?

thanks

There is NO reason to raise the H22a Redline to 8,500.. power starts to die at 7,200 anyways, so you are just going to make less power.. yea, its nice to stay in a lower gear and rev, the the cam grinds, valves, motor, everything is not made to rev and make power at that range, even with fuel settings different..

i have the autometer phantom series 5" with shift light, black bezel & white face. Its a universal tach, can be used with any 4,6 or 8 cylinder car, i think it looks nice in my accord, it doesnt look too big like they do in civics. I have it mounted on the a-pillar.

Some Honda tachs are all-over-the-place. DO NOT DISABLE THE FACTORY FUEL-CUT/REV LIMIT unless you've built up the top and bottom end to take higher revs. You can lower the VTEC xover with a VTEC controller though. ~4,700 works well for H22s as this is where the lo and hi cam torque curves usually intersect.
