Default Stock '99 Stereo details help

i've got a '99 accord with a stock honda tape deck and the cd player module installed right below it. i have an mp3 player i want to use with this stereo, but i don't know if this stereo has any line in jacks. Does anyone know if there are ? i'm looking for standard L R rca line input to use with my player. I haven't pulled the head unit out to find out.

no, there are not any input connections. your best bet if you want to keep the stock stereo is to use an FM modulator.

thanks. do you know how those transmitters sound ? if quality is degraded alot, then i would rather buy an aftermarket head unit.

Well, there's an input, that's what the CD player is plugged into but no RCA jack inputs. You could probably pick up an adapter, but keep in mind that if you do this you'll lose your CD player since it is currently using that plug.

And FM modulators suck, in no way do they compare with a direct connection (a wire).

What I would do if I were you would be to just pick up an aftermarket head unit. If I were looking for an MP3 player today, I'd pick up the CDA 9826 or CDA 9827 from Crutchfield. $230 and $260 respectively, includes kit, harness, shipping, and no tax (at least for where I live).

If you do put in an aftermarket radio, you are going to have a blank spot where the CD player currently is, that CD player replaced a little storage box. If you want, you can buy a replacement storage box from your local dealer, the price would probably be in the $30 or so range.

yeah i want to use an ipod. so long as it has an rca input at the back of the head unit, i can get one of those 2-to-1 connectors to connect both the cd player and the ipod to the head unit. i'm new to the mp3 hd player market and when i realized it can carry my whole collection of music, i figured that i can use it in the home, on the computer and in the car without lugging around discs anymore.

thanks for your help buddy. how do i remove the head unit ? do i need a tool ? if so i can go get it at the dealer and do this.

happy holidays to all !

You need a screwdriver, I think that's about it.

Here are the instructions for installing the CD unit that is below your radio, it will tell you how to take out the radio:

Take a look at the two head units I mentioned above, either one of them will do what you want and I believe that you can easily plug an ipod into either, with an adapter. I personally don't have an MP3 player... yet. In my Accord I have the cassette head unit and a trunk mounted Alpine CD changer that I put in myself back in late '98 (right after I bought my '99 LX). In my other car (my commuter), I have an Alpine CD head unit from '99 (CDA 7839), I love it.
