It looks really decent, and I hear it has a V6 with almost 200hp...Hyundai is beginning to impress me, I hope they do well with this car...it won't beat the RSX but it should be better than the Celica...

BTW, the spelling is Pininfarina... but yes it does look like the first decent looking car from them and although I have not seen it, I actually LIKE the way it looks.

165(ish) hp, 180(ish) ft-lbs of torque...... looks sharp. I always liked the look of the tiburon, especially the last iteration that they've been shipping to the US - if it had the rally AWD and turbo-4 i would be all over it

Umm.....Ross, since when is a RSX better than a GT-S? (Not to start a big debate). If anything the GT-S's are better, if not even. I'd like to see proof that the RSX-S's will beat a GT-S.

Slap some new tires on the RSX-S and I bet it will beat the pants off of the GT-S. I have driven both.

The only way to make the new Celicas fast is with N20. They have been out for a few years and have basically no aftermarket support...their engine is already maxed out at 180 hp, not like the B-series which can just keep making power. And the K-series will only be better.

I have said this before - Toyota should stop trying to copy VTEC with its weak VVTL-i, and stick to turbocharging...Toyota has had great success with turbo cars (MR2, Supra, old Celica, etc).

Toyota is considered by many to have the best variable valve and lift system in the world. This is why their VVTL-i is licensed by several manufacturers including BMW and Volvo.

...And why's this in the Competition forum? Hmm? You're about to tell us about the racing programme? Or they're supplying them to the Summit Point advanced course?
It's because Hyundai is the "competition", George.

Ross-

Why don't you come out to a few of the NASA VA autocrosses and find out just how much the 7th gen Celica "sucks?"

I agree with better tires the RSX will be closer to handling like a Celica, but it still won't brake like one.

I have seen stock GT-Ss run high 14-second quarter miles and whoop C4s and 5s at the autox. Very scary. Overall I'd rank it between the GS-R and ITR.
If TRD decides to make a "race-spec" Celica we Honda owners better really watch out.

Too bad you have to be 5'8" and weigh <150 lbs to drive one... Geez, and I thought my GS-R was bad...

Yeah, at 6'0" I do have some clearance issues in my GTS. It is all the sunroof, I fit just fine in the models with no sunroof.

It's fine without a helmet, but with one I kind of have to duck a bit.

If I had to pick between the two, I'd probably get the GT-S over the RSX-S. This isn't any sort of an anti-Honda thing on my part, but I just felt the GT-S had better brakes, better transient response and more rotation dialed into it stock. It didn't have the bottom-end the RSX did, but the midrange and top-end were stout. My friend is in the process of building one up for STS, and I'll be very interested to see how quick that car is once he has the allowable engine bolt-ons and good suspension. I think the light weight and braking ability will be what keeps it ahead of a comparably prepared STS RSX-S.

I'd take the RSX over the GT-S simply because of the aftermarket support and all the JDM Type R upgrade potential, but I don't think it's accurate to say that Toyota can't make a kickass n/a engine. Just look at those AE86 n/a build-ups by TRD, Toda, etc. Those things are making way over 200 hp n/a and have been for a long time, all in a lightweight rwd package. Nice!

I love Honda engines, but Toyota can build a top-notch n/a engine as well as some of the best turbo engines in the world. I'd love to have a MR2 turbo or AE86 in my garage right next to my Civic hybrid n/a monster.

Can't we all just be friends

It's not a typical Pininfarina design...
Yeah, I know. Looks a lot like a Mustang from the side

Ross, I wouldn't go as far as saying Celica's suck. Also, if you change the tires on the RSX-S then it wouldn't be stock right, therefore the Celica would beat it stock? (Confusing sentence...) I think of Celica's as more of a sports car and a RSX-S as a Semi-Luxurious Quick Car. The Celica's brakes and curb weight are phenominal, but of course its major flaw is it's transmission which won't stay on the larger part of the cam. In order to do so you need to shift at the fuel cut-off which is 8300 RPM's, considering the redline is 7800. That sucks definitely. To me, after driving both, I like the Celica more so than the RSX-S, admitting that both are very nice autmobiles, but the Celica just feels/looks/drivers better. That's my personal opinion of course. Lastly, maybe Toyota copied Honda's VTEC, with VVTL-i, but it is actually more advanced than VTEC, which is a shame, considering as far as I know, a "VVTL-i" controller hasn't been produced to help out the gearing. Hm...what else, then someone said that Toyota's variable valve system is the most sophisticated, wrong. Check out BMW's new VV system. Mmmm...... Anyways, it sure would be nice if Toyota did come out with a new Turbo vehicle, especially considering the new 350Z/Skyline/EVO, etc are coming back to life again. We'll see.......

Well, Toyota's VVTL-i, may be more advanced than VTEC in that is has infinitely variable valve timing, but Honda's latest iVTEC matches that. As for BMW's new Valtronic system, from the articles I've seen it seems to have infinitely variable timing and lift, but still a fixed duration. If that is so, at least Honda/Toyota still have at least that advantage with 2-stage duration. Someone please correct me if I'm wrong.

In terms of changing tires on an RSX-S making it not stock anymore, I dont know how the rulebooks go. But Honda is notorious for under-tiring their cars. I am sure that if Toyota put Michelin MXGTV4 or whatever on their Celica, it would have the same problems that RSX-S does...remember, the rubber on the car has a lot to do with braking power.

I do agree that maybe the RSX-S isn't comparable to the GT-S...after all, the Prelude was supposed to be the Celica's main competitor, not the Integra.

Why are we comparing VTEC with VVTI?

Oooh... 10 years after VTEC, the patent runs out and Toyota, along with half the world introduces their version. You don't think they'll make improvements?

I'm not a honda "fanatic"... the argument just seems pointless.
