What would your top 10 race cars / sports cars of all time be if you had unlimited funds???
Just as I said in the title. I was just realizing that I'd put together a pretty formidible list of cars (foreign or domestic) if I had unlimited funds.
So here they are in no particular order...
1. My 1993 Honda Civic Coupe DX (autocross car and daily driver, not to mention my first new car!)
2. 2002 Honda S2000 (glass rear window and improved transmission)
3. 2002 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 (just a monster, in fact the only GM product I'd buy!)
4. 1988 McLaren Honda MP 4/4 (the Senna & Prost car, last year for 1.5L turbo V6)
5. 2001 Ferrari F2001 (Schumachers 4th Drivers Championship car)
6. 1968 Ford GT40 (with the 427 motor in it, the LeMans winner)
7. 1938 Mercedes W154 / W196 Grand Prix car (before and after The War, it was the world standard)
8. 1929 Dusenberg SSJ (just a beautiful piece of art work)
9. 1997 McLaren F1 (the road car that is)
10. 2001 Ford SVT Lightning (hey I may need to tow all these cars!)

I was considering asking a question like this, but with a total pricetag on it so as to make it interesting. When you start talking about F1 cars, this kind of thing gets a little silly. Here are my top 10 road cars, some of which I would obviously take on the track.
1. Ferrari Testarossa/512M in white, yellow, or black
2. Ferrari F40 in red
3. Ferrari F355 Targa Top 6-speed in yellow
4. BMW E36 M3 CSL in yellow
5. BMW M5 in silver, navy, or black
6. Early 80's Porsche 911 targa in red
7. Lamborghini Diablo 6.0 in orange of course
8. Acura/Honda Integra Type R in yellow
9. McLaren F1 in black or silver
10. Subaru WRX STi 4-door in that cool Mica Blue or whatever it is
I included only street-legal cars that can be had in the U.S. (#10 is still a bit iffy) to add a touch of realism. This list assumes that I live in California or Florida; by myself or with one other person; in an area with an accessible racetrack where crime is not an issue. I think we should make another one of these lists, but with fewer cars, weather/crime considerations, and family issues as well.

Ross, I know the Z06 is faster, but the Chevy kingdom only has one king, and that's the ZR-1. Plus, it's rare, 7000 > units during its production span.

If we are talking race cars then I would have to go with the following:
1. BMW Lemans Roadster in the Art Car form
2. Prodrive FIA GT Ferrari 550 Maranello
3. Ferrari 333SP
4. Uwe Alzen's DTM Mercedes Benz (2001 season)
5. Tommi's EVO 6 with Tarmac setup
6. BMW M3 GTR with V8 (01 season winner for GT in ALMS)
7. 01 Porsche GT3R
8. Toyota GT-ONE Race Car
9. BMW Williams F1 car (2001 season)
10. Realtime Integra Type-R
That will pretty much wrap it up. Of course it will cost an unlimited amount of money to maintain these cars but I am just assuming that is also included.

Hank, I was actually up until 8 am. I'm on something of a reversed sleep schedule.
f50 was one my alternates but I like the rawness of the F40 better. I have sat in an F40...and just sitting in it gave me the *******.

That's a total of $5,450,455+ US (Which means they are on average $540k+). And a total of 7056 combined horsepower. (6211 ft/lbs of Torque total)

I can't image how a list of the top 10 sportscars of all time would not include a Ferrari. Oh well...
Martini's list is just basically a list of the fastest cars of all time. You don't need both a CLK-GTR and a 911 GT1...they are almost identical in terms of purpose and performance...kinda like having a WRX STi and a Mitsu EVO. From the looks of it he's basing his list on pure numbers...I bet if he were allowed to drive all of those cars, and then drive some other ones that are not quite as impressive on paper, his list would change.
Ferraris are never quite the fastest supercar, but there is a reason that they endure. It's the same reason the ITR is a more memorable car than the RSX-S or WRX...just the feeling you get from driving it/sitting in it/looking at it/seeing it/hearing it.
and Martini - it's the CLK-GTR, not SLK-GTR. And the Bugatti? Please. How about some cars that can be driven over 45mph, not balsa-wood prototypes.

9. 90 M3
10. 95 M3 CSL
I have to add one more. A 1990 ZR-1. One in particular white/blue interior, it was a pre-production car loaned to Baker Racing in 1990. I was a passenger in that car for my most awesome Corvette experience ever. It was gutted and I don't know what was done to it, but if I could find that car, no matter how ratty it is now I would buy it in a second.
