Honda lists redline at 8400 to not overstress the motor as there are those who love redlining daily. Of course it could handle more revs but only on occassion. I woud say 9000 is the max and only bring it up to that on occassion.

ok..what you say seems to make sense....i guess i'll be revving to 9000 "on one of those occassions". thanks

i'll find that out when i take her to the dyno. thanks for all your info's. happy holidays~!!

You should take the RPM up till your motor stops making power. No sense in taking it to 9k if you make the most power at 8.5K (#'s are just for example)

true....but dont the cams stop making power at around 8600 or so???
by the way i turned my STOCK Itr head to 9770 once.....not under load...tranny problem caused it to come out of gear at the top of third (bent shift fork) and it ran up that high on me one time.........
still runs perfect that was nearly 3 months ago

I don't recommend over 9k either when I had my Type R I did rev a little below 10k and
it seemed kind of funny. It was by accident also not on purpose.

I got the Portflow inner valve springs and all the rest it type-r valvetrain.. The guy at Portflow told me that 9k is the safe limit when using their inner springs..
I wouldnt go over 8400 with a stock type-r valvetrain..

Honda did a lot of **** just to bring the redline from 8000 to 8400...you can't just come out of nowhere and decide that another 600rpm won't make a difference.
Nothing will break right away, but keep in mind the thing called metal fatigue, and that stress rises exponentially with rpm....

i would not dare to rev to 9500 rpms with stock valvetrain.
try that with some nice little cams and see what happens. of course thats considering you have cams that make power that high.
If not it is even dummer
