Default ITB's on a GSR,power diff.??????

Im thinking about buying some ITB's but I want to kown if it's worth the money (1400) for some toda ITB's or is it just better running a JG intake manifold. what's the power diff. between the both of them??? if you ran both pls let me know on the power thanks.

Well, for either intake manifold, you are gonna run into some tuning problems.

I am sure you know how the GSR works with the vtec set at 4500 and then the secondary butterfly valves at 6. The ITB's and the JG both cancel out your butterfly valves so with either one, you will prolly need to get some sort of EMS or a VAF-C. You will need to raise the vtec up to around 5500 or if you dynotune, they will take it from there.

For the ITB's, I would recomend some dyno time with a good tuner who has had some experience with them. I would look into Hondata, Uberdata, or even Emanage. Granted the ITB's are a great power adder and will give you more power with good tuning there is the downside... You dont have a filter most of the time and if you daily drive your car, this can run into problems and become a pain in the ***.

For the JG, you will need to make a custom bracket for your throttle cable. Sometimes you get lucky and things work but for the most part you will need to make this bracket. I had to make one on my skunk2. The JG is just another aftermarket manifold that gives good gains. Great for daily driver cars looking for some more horsepower.

Just a little food for thought... When I ran my skunk2 manifold on my stock GSR, it was actually slower. I then installed a type R head package which was the cams, springs, and retainers. helped out with gains so basically, might wanna get some headwork done first.

What are you mods up to this point? What are you planning to do in the future besides the manifold upgrade? Reason I ask is, both are used in conjunction with hotter cams and higher compression to be utilized to the full potential. Slapping a JG intake manifold or ITB's on a GSR with bolt on's will most likely result in a loss of power.

Agreed... you will need some skunk3's or toda's to get some potential.

With CTR pistons, that's not a good idea.

Eh, sounds to me like people are just guessing what the outcome will be. I had some DIY ITB's on my STOCK B16...and at full throttle high RPM's you could REALLY feel a power difference. The thing pulled...and it also sounded like a Harley. I had all these vacuum leaks too, and it still pulled. I think the TODA ITB's will rock, especially with your set-up. You don't need really big cams for the ITB's to work, they'll work no matter what...but the bigger the cams, the more overall power you'll get. If I had money, I'd buy the TODA ITB's in a heartbeat!

I had a full turbo kit, but sold it to get the itb's, I don't have the money to resleeve my block and all that **** that you need to run high rpm's all day long on the auto cross track. so I thought n/a will be more reliable.

why don't you look on the toda web site and look go under race eng. and there's a GSR b18C with ITB's, why don't you do some research and then come back and talk your smack

I have this on my website, a long time ago we did a test but didn;t get to fine tune ... it was on an ls/vtec ... as much as 25hp on some parts of the rpm band ... pics prolly not clear, but peak numbers were somethign like 226whp vs 213whp ... on a 81.5mm bore ls/vtec motor

btw, the Toda ITBs wont fit 94+ gsr heads only 92/93 GSR and B16a/ITR ... other ITBs like Jenvey and TWMs will work.

no the ITBs were TWMs, it was a GSR head ... the motor was not tuned, the wavy lines were from spinning the wheels on the drums ... I think we had overheating problems that day so thats why we couldnt; keep running and tuning.

The first graph below is one of my customers motor, a 1.8 liter GSR motor bored to 81.5mm with endyn rollerwaves and around 12.7:1 compression ... the two runs in the first graph below is me tuning the motor, i.e. cam gears, ecu tuning, vtec crossover, etc. he had a skunk2 intake manifold on the very same motor. But the 211 whp is where we ended up with on the skunk2 manifold and 64mm t/b ...

The second graph below is when the TWM ITBs were installed and tuned with nothing else touched inside the motor except taking off the skunk2 intake manifold and 64mm t/b and put on the TWM ITBs ... this was a GSR head btw. The 221 whp compared to 211 wiht manifold should say alot on a high compression motor. Those were peak numbers but nonetheless there were still much bigger improvements elsewhere in the band.

no problem ... I must point out that I use a jg manifold (slightly modified bored at t/b entry point to 70mm) and use with a bbk 70mm on our street car (class rules restrict us from ITBs) whcih has a high compr 2 liter b-series ... we haven;t gotten a chance to dyno, most of the tuning I've done in the street and the car jsut halls *** ... how will this compare to the dyno ? no clue, for all I know it can beat the peka HP produced with ITBs and extend the power band ... but lose to the mid-torque curve ... or may lose overall, who knows.

But, if you have a JG then use it, they are cheap and get the job done.
