DIY crank tool
well, ever since i owned a honda I always noticed something about the crank pully....it looked like a nut went on the end...well guess what it does.
I went to my local fasteners store, after i measured the crank pulley
my findings are.
If you buy two 1 1/2 inch "cat" (bulldozer) nuts and weld them together (butt weld)
they fit right in there and you can fit a 19mm socket right in. All you need is a big cresent or pipe wrench, or you could just weld a bar to the end...just thought I should share

I plan to make one for d16a6's since we get screwed on crank tools. We don't have a socket hole or anything. Either going to make it stick into the crank holes, or something to hold the flywheel.

to hold the flywheel, drill two holes in a piece of flatstock, one for a pressure plate bolt and one for a tranny housing bolt.
also u can just use a old belt like altinator belt. u just need to wrap it around it then let it fold overitself so as it turns it tightens itself then hook it to a bolt and twist away be weary of the belt braking tho

D and B use the same crank tool. Doh!
On another note...since I got my big *** impact wrench, I wonder why I wasted money on that Moroso crank tool I used to have

an easier solution would be a very big set of ChannelLocks. You can get them at Home Depot, get the really large set. They have 'BigAzz' engraved in the side of them
lock the BigAzz's on the smallest ring of the pulley and let it lock up against the lower control arm. Have someone hold the BigAzz's in place, but they will bite themselves. Get out your strong arm and a piece of pipe and go to town.
In the past 4 years I have not had a single crank pulley bolt that the BigAzz's couldnt get off. They are easily 30-0
When done, get some sandpaper and fold it in a V shape and clean up any scuffs you put on the ribs of the pulley.

actually i would say that it depends if the vehicle has power stering. ps equiped has the hex pulley the d series with out ps have the holes.
except for the ef d series with ps i dont think they have the hex
i bought my hex tool of the "tool guy" at work it was like 40 bucks.
either way if its 30 or 60 its still worth it if you dont have air tools.
a quick search on google found this

Well looks like you called it. I never bought a Honda with power steering ... I figure the way they come our wheezing little motors don't need a bunch of pansy accessories dragging on the crank
All D and B I've worked on worked with the Moroso tool but ... all those D's were manual racks.

if thats true, the top left pulley in my pic was on the wrong vehicle. 95 coupe EX
channel locks are the last tool i would consider correct for pulley removal.

well that pulley only has two belt "lines" on it. all ex/ si's 92-2000 came with ps so either someone else changed the pulley or it could just got mixed up...
and i completely agree with the channel locks. dont use channel locks you dont want to injure yourself using the wrong tool ...
i personally like to use this

I have this tool but I bought it from The Tool Warehouse. Only cost $40. I have used it a few times now and it works great.

That tool is great, its only $24.xx worked well for me for quite some time.

snapon is good for some things, but be very careful, they often take offbrand stuff and market their name on it and jack up the price.
Its really highway robbery. (not to mention 19.8% interest financing...)

Scat makes a tool for VW's that looks like a letter "I" with a hole in the center. you bolt it on to one of the engine-tranny bolt holes and spin it so the pawls enage the flywheel. I have heard it works for Honda's, but haven't picked one up yet.
