bad valve gasket mimics bad rings?? (oil on plug wire)
Still trying to find my elec problem, but I noticed when I pulled out number #3 wire it was coated with oil. I knew I always smelled something. A mechanic on my route said the valve gaskets break near the spark plug ( that little circle) & thats how oil is getting in there. Has this happened to anyone? I would think 100k is a bit low for a hondas rings to go bad on one piston...
if your talking about oil on the spark plug wires, then that has nothing to do with the rings on the piston. The mechanic was refering to the rubber ring that is located in your valve cover. It seals the top of the spark plug tube. Go to Honda and buy a valve cover gasket set. In it comes a valve cover gasket, spark plug tube seals, rubber grommets and metal washers. Will probably cost about $30-$40 from the dealer.
For instructions on how to remove the valve cover, run a search. It's been cover a few times before. After removing the valve cover, flip it over and you'll see four black rubber rings. Remove them and put the new ones in. They are in there real tight so you'll have to a bit forcefull. Once thats done, just put everything back in the reverse of removal. Make sure you put liquid gasket in the corners of the head where the gasket goes over the camshaft when reassembling everything.

TouringAccord, you own!! So he could be right huh? Its prolly that and not bad rings, oil would not push up past the plug? Now that I think about it that is pretty tight.... I mean that wie was soaked down to the plug... I hope you guys are right

If it was a bad piston ring you would be burning oil, it would not go up past the spark plug. It's pretty common when there is oil in the spark plug tube for the spark plug tube seals in the valve cover to be bad. I haven't heard of it being from the lower spark plug tube seals but there is a small chance. Most likely though it's your upper spark plug tube seals in the valve cover. Run a search on "oil on sprak plug wire" or "oil on spark plugs" or something like that and you'll see how many people have had the same problem. Just get a gasket set from your local Honda dealer. Shouldn't take you longer than say 30-45 min to replace everything.

buddy...all u need is to replace ''spark plug seals theres ''4'' of them<------...its plastic...gets hard with age and leaks...no biggie...maybe 15 bucks...i recomend valve cover gaskets since u have to take valve cover off...utrn the valve cover ove and u will see the seals underneath..peel off and push new ones back on
