Some ideas plz
i have a 05 s2k, 2 and a half weeks old, Ive been reading a lot and just cant figure out what the 0-60 and 1/4 is. Ive heard anywhere from 5.5 to 6.3, and ive heard 13.8- 14.4 It would be cool if anyone here knows the real stats. sea level. Now down to the point. My bro is modding up his Evo Mr. and my friend is modding up his srt-4, and im not going to be able to keep up with them. My plans are to get a intake, all piping, and thats all i really want to do. Any ideas on some mods i can add to my car that wont kill the life span of my car and can add a punch. My goal for the car is to have 240-270 whp.
well those numbers you got are quite accurate....a lot of it depends on the drivers skill level, temprature outside and yada yada.... but on average it's like 5.6 seconds 0-60... as for the quarter mile time.. that is the big question...a few people have gotten it down to 13.8 stock.. and other's have gotten horrible times as far as 14.7 in the quarter.... i myself have gotten a 14.2 and it was a hot humid day out.....
as for you keeping up with the evo and the srt-4... well.. one quick mod... nitrous....dont' cheap out on it.. and get a direct port and you'll be able to keep up with them/smoke them..
and it wont' really hurt your car unless you use it constantly..... if you use it once in a while just when you're racing your buddies.. you'll be fine..
by the way. congrats on the purchse... and welcome to the family....
and on checking up on info on the car.. also check out http://www.s2ki.com

ive never in my life seen a s2000 stock break into the 13s. at the track ive only seen mid 14s and worst on several occasions. not trying to knock cause my next car is going to be a s2k but this is what ive seen
i wounldnt want to sqeeze, i was more thinking like chiping my car and stuff
Just mods, Ne ideas? And for the times i think people get bad times because they never broke in there car good. I think im doing a good job so far. But my car has been parked for 2-3 days, cuz im on probation. 2 points, im under 18. So ya any mods other then sqeezing? Thx

1) learn to drive first. otherwise, even launching the car will get expensive very quickly.
2) get another car if you want to drag it all the time. it will get expensive very quickly.
3) controlled environment. or else, ti will get expensive very quickly.
probation eh? good luck with that. hope it ends soon and you can get back on your feet. otherwise, read up, and read up some more. 270hp can be quite expensive on a NA basis, but SC'ed, isn't a problem.
p.s. - this car does turn too ya know. take it out to a road course, or at least an autocross (even when on probation!) and you'll learn a great deal in a very short amount of time. actually, you'll learn more about your car or any car than you woudl if you drove on the streets for 5-10+ years.

o for sure ima go to tracks, i even bag on my friend with the srt-4 and tell him even if he kills me in 1/4 modded, ill smoke him on tracks. Its just i never get the chance to go, My probation is only for the holidays, till jan 14th. But i just would like some extra power in my car so i can keep up with the big boys and not get blown away. And if i do choice to sc or turbo, id turbo it, cuz its more fun. BOV. I heard u should go with sc for s2k, but i think turbo s2k is even more then i need. More ideas plz. Thx
1) Write your posts in a clear fashion if you want the experts to clearly understand what you are asking. They cant help you if they cant understand you.
2) 240-270whp NA is IMPOSSIBLE on a S2k without going into the internals which is gonna cost a lot of $ and a lot of time. Do a search and look at the gains typical of S2ks with NA boltons. If that is your goal get an SC (most price effective route). And NO, turbos are not necessarily more fun, if you wanna go turbo just because of the BOV sound you are a ricer and deserve to rot in one of the innerest circles of Hell. In other words, dont use that reasoning
.
3) How do you know that you will smoke the Srt4 on the road course? Its all in the driver and I guarantee (I have driven both) that the SRT4 is a lot easier for a beginner to drive than an S2k so how do you know he wont smoke you? Go get some track time, know the car, and THEN you may make claims of beating ANYONE on the track.
4) Autox or Driving School QUICK. You are 17 years old with a car that may as well be a weapon in the hands of an irresponsible, incompetent driver. You owe it to yourself and to the others on the road to learn how the car TRULY handles and as such be able to get yourself out of bad situations and potentially avoid getting someone else into said type of situation. Besides, it MUCH more fun than drag racing, I guarantee it.
Just some honest, frank advice

Yes, the best thing you can do to be faster is go to driving school. Spend some good money on your suspension setup, it will improve your times better then performace mods $ for $. Look at the NSX, it runs with big dogs with 2X the amount of HP and it still wins in road racing.
Its fun to win in a Drag, but it's even funner to watch your friends get pulled over for showing off + its fun when he has to bum rides off you because he can't pay for gas, because he has to pay for his ticket first
oh BTW Fallout, I knew your name was Frank

Its cool u being honest, but u dont know my past. Sure im 17, but that doesnt mean i cant drive. My dad has had a 03 Z06, Also 03 540i stick shift sport pack. So ive drivin my share of cars and have see how different cars handle and how they are different. About the srt-4, ive sat in srt-4's i drivin behind my friends and every turn the car tilts and they cant go in turns fast. My friends admit themselves i would smoke them on tracks. And about me being a ricer i dont think so. My bro has a evo mr. Hes no ricer. My friend with a srt-4 isnt a ricer, its a dodge lol and its turbo. I think for myself turbo would be more fun. I enjoy turbos more then SC.
Also i know myself that tracks would be much more fun, but it wont hurt to go to a 1/4 just so u know what your car can do. And if i just forget all little mods and go turbo, will it kill my car in long run? Cuz in my mind my car is fast enough, and i dont want a 100 + hp with a turbo lol. I would like to boost like 5 psi or even less. Just a little more so i can be in the 13's high low mid i dont care..., and be good in tracks. So what turbo kits would be good to lower the boost to like 5 or less and how many hp u think ill gain, and times in 1/4. Thx u again.

Hate to sound harsh but... What your dad has nor what you have driven matters here. Driving a lot of cars doesn't mean you know how to handle them. Because you step in one car doesn't mean much at all. Just this last weekend, I rode in a 512TR, but that doesn't mean I know how to drive it, nor how to drive it well. But I assure you, I'll have a better chance than most.
If you say a car handles poorly because it "tilts", this really makes you sound uneducated. Tilting is just how the suspension is reacting and a characteristic that can be used to your advantage. An observation like this is just plain ignorance. Times around a track measure how well a car can handle by competent drivers.
Do me and others a favor, at least go out to an autocross. Drop 20 bucks, spend a day out with some enthusiasts with various cars. Heck, one guy locally, brings a different car each time. While they might only be a Pontiac here, or an Accord there, they are various cars that he is autocrossing. He doesn't compete to win, but just to have fun. Once you get the lead foot off the street, you'll come to realize that car enthusiasts don't have as much of a grudge against each other. But on the other hand, the grocery dragsters and desktop racers do.
I hope you take this constructively. But if you want to go ahead with your BOV venture, post your budget, don't cheap on tires, and post what you want to achieve clearly. Otherwise, we'll suggest a package that will run you 20K and that's before we attach a turbo onto the car, or even put on wheels.

Every red-blooded American male considers himself a good driver but as many of us have found after going to autoxes and driving schools, you really arent half as good as you think you are (this happended to me and I am sure it happened to other). I raced go-karts since I was 15 and by the time I was 17 I was road racing and doing time trials so TRUST ME I know that being 17 does not necessarily mean you are a bad driver. Nevertheless the fact remains that you have never driven on a track before. You should be able to REALLY handle the car and squeeze out every inch of performance out of it and once you CANNOT go any faster and you feel the car as an extension of yourself THEN start complaining that you need more power.
-Turbo implies doing LOTS of little mods.
-I am not the most informed person on the S2k scene (I browse here because my dad has an S2k and I do all the research for him and drive it at events every now and then) but there are not that many turbo kits out for the S2k. The Elda Engineering one is the one of which Ive heard the best things but its not out yet.
-I am not saying that having a turbo car means you are a ricer. Im saying getting a turbo just for the BOV sound implies being a ricer. How do you know a turbo car is more fun than an S/C one, I didnt see any SC cars on your little list. The SC offers more linear response and can be just as fun and more reliable for a daily driver. Try riding in an E55 AMG or a Blown S2k and then tell me its not fun.
Beandip- Nice. A pun. Sorry if my English kind of threw you off, its my second language after all. My name is Hector, nice to meet you

This gives Hector far more qualifications than driving dad's BMW.
I hope these points are taken constructively.

dont get me wrong, i know im not the best driver, i know i have a lot to learn, but i know i can hold my own. Sure i ima go to tracks run it all day long to get used to my car. But i do know i can hold my own on tracks. I wont be good, and i wont be bad. Ill be alright. And its not just the bov that i want a turbo, its just the whole idea of turbos i like. The style if u wana say. And for Hector saying e55 amg. Lol my dad when he had his z06 raced one and he told me till around 130 he wasnt more then a car and a half behind him. I know sc's car can be fun but my style i would like turbo. IM 17 lol. And im not American, lol Armenian LOL. And like i said i dont want anything big. a stage one i think gives like 6-7 psi. If i were to get one like that i would lower the psi to like 3. Just so i can keep up a little. I dont want to be the guy who can beat all my friends, as long as i can keep up, im happy. lol
270 whp...??? can u get that with bolt ons?? hey and watch out when ur putting stuff on cause i know some stuff voids ur warranty....my s2k is about a month old now and i have about 800 miles on it....puttin in a Comptech IceBox this week and i think thats gonna be the only engine work to it.

I was just playing, I dont think your english is bad at all. I just thought it was a funny commnet
oh Bs2k, understand, your going to spend some good $$$ for upgrading parts on your S. If you REALLy want to whoop some *** in the Straight, Turbo is the only way to go. NA wont be as fast, but with Light weight parts, you'll kill on the track. It all depends on the money you want to spend.

i think just a turbo kit, intake, piping, carbon hood, would be enough for me. Remember i dont want a rocket. sea level low 13's is enough for me. I would like to boost around 3-5 so i dont kill my car in long run. So im guessing a stage 1 turbo kit, and pull it down to 3-5. How much u think i would have to spend and what kit would be a good one? Thx again
LOL, figures. I have some Armenian friends and they are two times as red-blooded as the Americans.
Cmon dude, if youre gonna spend over $5000 of your (or your parents', I dont know and I dont care) on making your S2k turbo I would hope you have a more valid reason than "I like the style". Objectively I think SC kits for the S2k are much more developed, proven, and better for daily driving than turbochargers but hey, its your car, you do what you want with it.
Run the car on a track for a day and then say you can hold your own. When youre able to hang with a mere 125hp ITA CRX in your S2k (WAY harder than it seems) then you may say that you can hold your own.
Here's a hint: When I was your age I was considered a mascot of the veteran racers, they accepted me as one of their own and I learned a lot from them to the point that at 19, some people that I count among my best friends are over 30 years old racers. How did this happen? It happened because I knew when to admit that I didnt know something and I knew when to shut up and when to ask questions. Its all in the attitude. Just like the great philosopher Socrates comcluded in Plato's "Apology" that he was the wisest man alive for the mere reason that, in his words, "I know that I do not know" so must a driver approach racing. Dont have any presumptions about your skill until you try it. Humility and responsability is what separates the mature racers from the boy racers. Dont worry about your friends, spend time and money on training yourself to know the car (read: track time) and you will develop the confidence and self-esteem to not care that much about your friends cars. Your car is for you to enjoy it, you are under no obligation to keep up with anyone.
In the words of Mr Bagel, I hope you take this constructively.
PS Mr. Bagel- I LOVED the Pyramid of Speed on your sig. That is pure unadulterated genius.

Alright, i want to do this for myself, and i ask for some turbo kits not a lession. Not putting u guys down but u guys are just saying what people said before u. Its on this forum already, I just thought u guys could let me know of any good turbo kits, and ive seen that turbo kits go for like 2.5k. A stage one. how will it cost me 5 g's. Thx again
Cool. Fair enough. When your build up a turbo car the costs have an uncanny tendency to keep adding up
. Where did yous see a $2.5K turbo kit for the S2k???
Rev Hard- $4200
Ultimate Racing- $5500
RMJ-$4100
Inline Pro- $4500
They are ALL in that range. Add the labor and all the little things that always go wrong plus miscellaneous extra parts like clutch, LSD, good tires, etc... and I GUARANTEE that $5000 wil seem cheap.
You could always go to a shop and have it custom made but that ususally isnt a good idea on a 2005 car.
As for the quality of the kits, Ill let the turbo s2k owners expand on that.
Cheers

lol, my bad i just relook it was 4k's u right. But u think its even worth it for the power ima get? But my first mods are piping, and intake. that should get me down. And ive been thinking. is the 05 set up better then the other years? Im sure they not the same speed. Is one fast then the other?
umm now you want turbo?? you do realize it's going to cost you way way more then $4500, dont' forget the tuning, aem ems (for management) bigger injectors yada yada..... it's actually quite complicating.... if you want it done right you're going to be spending maybe close to $10,000..... and if you go half asssed then, it's going to be weak....you don't seem to want much power so just stick with bolt ons....
I/H/E and get the aem ems to fine tune everything and you could hit around 240-250rwhp....
or you can go with inline pros 2.5L stroker kit for $5,000 and hit 240rwhp... then get the bolt ons and ems on top of that...
you could and might hit 270rwhp... (hasn't been done yet but i don't see any way you couldn't get it to that number)

If you were local id show you the numerous videos i have of our friend Taih's 04 suzuka blue running 13.9's and 14.0's consistantly over 3 nights at commerce drag way (atlanta drag way)...its not only possible, but a little asian guy high off his *** on zanex did it with his...lol, so im sure straight minded, 13.9's are probobly fairly easy (granted the conditions are optimal for it) and i dont see why a 13.8 pass would be impossible...i was able to pull a 14.1 out of it, that was the best i could do (two 14.1xx, several mid 14's just trying out various shift points)...
The car almost feels sad when you drag race it though, like its just itching to keep going and take the loop around corner at the same speed...lol.
