B16 Swap, but using Some D16 Components...
I have a 2k B16 swapped into a 2k Ex. It is currently using the Ex Cat/Midpipe/Muffler, and FuelPump.
Most of the time, after driving for a half hour, the shifter console tends to get warm, not warmer than the shifter itself, but the plastic piece where the boot mounts on to. I then smell a light burning smell. I cant really explain what smell it is, but it doesnt smell normal. The shifter is lukewarm, but the plastic piece tends to get a warmer than the usual.
-Could it be that the D cat is more restrictive than the B cat causing more heat than normal? The header mounted to the cat with no problems, so I assume fitment isnt an issue.
-What diameter is the D midpipe as oppossed to the B midpipe? I know Honda has 2 seperate part numbers for these, so based on assumption, the diameter is larger than the D16. Should the muffler be an issue as far as it being more restrictive than the B16? Assuming that the shift linkage is not touching the pipe, could it be that the rubber piece on the ball bearing/shifter is missing, causing the heat to transfer through?< Im guessing on the last part..
-Fuel Pump, what are the differences in the D16 and B16? Should it be wise to swap out the D pump for the B pump?
To summarize, something is getting hotter than usual in the shifter console area. Also, it has a smell, but it doesnt smell like gas or anything fuel related. D16 exhuast components used in the B16 swap, will that be ok from the cat-down?

I think you should swap out the exhaust parts. You are definately losing power, and this could also be causing the heat issue (not sure if you should worry about that though). The exhaust you have now was designed for less flow, and I'm sure it will make a big difference if you upgrade it.
As for the fuel pump, I don't think you need an upgrade. I had an HF crx with a b16 and the stock fuel pump with no problems.

could be that you have something metal that is getting heated by the exhuast,
and it is closer to the plastic pieces than it should be.
i'd say pull off the panel and get your flashlight and start hunting down what is burning..
also I think b16's run a larger fuel pump?
thats just off the top of my head though.

I would think that they may use a bigger fuel pump. I also think that the piping may be mounted closer to the floor for some reason, causing the heat to transfer up the cockpit.
