Idon't know where everybody gets off saying that the doors take 6.5 inch speakers. They don't. They take 5.25 inch speakers. Maybe if you get a custom speaker bracket. But the stock plastic piece only takes 5.25 inch speakers.

If I remember right they will take a 6.5 if you cut the factory opening a little. The only problem is all the 6.5" i tried were very deep and hit the window.
It will take the 6 1/2 speaker if you cut the back of the factory opening but the speaker can't be too deep. I have the Infinity 6 1/2" separates (old model) in my hatch.

5'25" sounds about right. But with custom brackets, yeah, it's no prob' makin 6'5" fit.</TD></TR></TABLE>
Read the post all the way next time. If you cut the back of the FACTORY bracket a 6.5 will fit

You are all wrong quit putting down mis-information. The stock size is 6", a 6.5" will fit with constructing a new mount. Lots of companies sell 6" as 6.5" but they are not. I have a JL XR650CS component set and there is no way it would fit in the factory mount. I made new mounts. This is the truth I worked in the Car Audio Business for 3yrs.
As some have said 6.5" will fit with new mounts. I made mine out of 22mm mdf. The Soundstream VG6C fits perfectly

The original mounts will hold 5.25".

The original mounts will hold 5.25".
Yeah i have the alpine type-r setup. And there is no way in hell i could have fit the 6.5" speakers in there. I am going to say on the stock brackets 5 and a quarter. But 6.5 on some deep throat brackets.

No you are incorrect. I have 6.5" Clarions in the front doors of my CRX and 6.5" Alpines in the back. They are both 6.5" Im 100% sure. I see the boxes they came with everyday because they are on my self infront of my bed. Im a bajillion percent sure that it is 6.5".
All other CRXs I have installed speakers in (3 others) they are all 6.5" aswell.

ok hi, my name is logical thinking and i'm here to help...
who cares what size the stock speaker is... it's history....
what will fit?
a 5.25" will fit easily... screw it right in... no problem. no mods necessary.
a 6.5" speaker will fit...
depending on the depth, you might need to get crafty with a spacer.
most less expensive 6.5" speakers will fit by simply cutting the rear plastic out of the factory speaker mount.... or bashing it out with a hammer as i did. it's not hard guys.. took me three small swings and an entire 43.7 seconds to accomplish this task.
if you have some crazy expensive speaker with a huge magnet than sure, you'll need a spacer... but who cares? if you have that kind of money to spend on "nice" speakers than you can come up with the $5-$10 for spacers.

i've put 4 or 5 sets of 6.5's in the front of crxs and i'd say one or two of them i could have put in w/o breaking out the rear of the cage but they were both really close.... so close that i didn't think i could get the metal "rim" of the speaker housing to tighten flush to the plastic bracket... there was about 1/8 - 1/4 of an inch gap around it...
good call though... i didn't realize you could do 6.5's with the grate/backing still in place...

It stands for "medium density fibreboard" if I'm not completely wrong. Very hard material and wheighs pretty much. But as most (all?) other wooden boards it will soak up water

OK CRXBART is right the speaker size is 6".
I am not sure on this but different years might have different sizes check your manuals. I know for a fact in my hatch 5.25" alpine type S was too small and would not bolt up. So i returned that and bought the 6.5" and i had to make a bracket the same as the one posted in this thread because the speaker was too far back and would hit the window. Other then that a 6.5" should bolt in as long as it is not too long.

Maybe i'm worng, but I was under the impression that the CRX has a stock size of 5-1/4 and the Civic has a stock size of 6-1/2. I've got 5-1/4 in my CRX and my friend has pioneer 6-1/2 in his civic hatch.
