Please tell me if this is a manual or
an automatic. VIN# 1HGCG327X2A015222 this a 2 dr accord ex. can someone tell me how to read the vin number please. thanks a lot.
What year is it? I found a sit that explains up to a ’98, but I’m thinking that this car is an ’02 (due to a “2” being in the tenth position). If it is an ’02, and assuming that Honda didn’t radically change their system between 5th and 6th generations…
1 = Made in the USA
H = Honda
G = Passenger car, made in USA
CG3 = Accord 2 Door (VTEC or ULEV)
2 = 2 Door Coupe, Automatic
7 = Accord EX (’94 through ’97), or Accord EX ULEV (’98)
X = check digit
The next digit is supposed to be a letter indicating the year, the chart I was looking at had only letters but it also only went up to ’98.
To answer your question, it looks like an automatic.

Per this site:
http://members.lycos.nl/hendrik/honda/vin.htm
for up to '98:
7th POSITION BODY TYPE I TRANSMISSION
1 = 2 Door Coupe, Manual
2 = 2 Door Coupe, Automatic
3 = 3 Door Hatchback, Manual
4 = 3 Door Hatchback, Automatic
5 = 4 Door Sedan, Manual
6 = 4 Door Sedan, Automatic
7 = 5 Door Wagon, Manual
8 = 5 Door Wagon, Automatic
I'm assuming that this would be true for after ’98.
Note these sites:
http://arlhonda.brownscar.com/...80423
and
http://www.autobytel.com/conte...92945
Both are ’02 Hondas for sale and both give the VINs, both are manuals and the 7th digit in each VIN is a “5”.
This site:
http://www.rohrman.com/usedcarspecials.php
has six or so’01 or ’02 Honda Accords for sale (also listing their VINs), the 7th digits in all of their VINs are a “2” or a “6”, and all of them are automatics.
Bottom line: I'm almost positive that it's an automatic. Look for a VIN with the 7th digit being a 1, 3, or a 5 (or a 7, if you don't mind wagons).
If you are looking for a manual and don't mind a sedan, take a look at the autobytel link above. It's an '02 LX with 52,xxx miles for just under $10K, but I have no idea where it is located.
