Default Questions regarding 2 1/4" Cat-backs (Apex Dunk in particular)

Quick question that hopefully someone can help me out with, but I just received my Apex Dunk (Huge 5" Tip) Cat-back minus the bolts/gaskets. I figure I'll use the existing gasket and bolts/nuts from the cat connection to b-pipe I have on right now, but I'm going to need new gaskets/bolts/nuts for the b-pipe to resonator connection as well as the resonator to muffler connection. (Confusing sentence) Well, I was wondering what size bolts I will need and also what size gasket to use? My guess would be to get the same size as the OEM Bolts and the same sized gasket? My only doubt is the difference in piping, hence the larger bolts and gasket. Let me know if you can help me out here...

Thanks!

PS, sorry for the double post....I just remember a few ITR owners with Dunk's.

just buy a gasket that matches the bolt pattern and it's at least 2.25" in diameter. Also buy the bigest size bolt that will fit thru the hole. It should not be very complicated to do that.

Just a passing thought. I've been using stainless steel bolts/washers/nuts on exhaust sytems and i is soooooo much easier to take things apart if you have to.

Worth the extra $.50.

I guess beauty is on the eye of the beholder, but I do not understand how some of you like those toilet pipe exhausts. I know some of you will tell me that you got it for free or whatever.

Ha Ha.....and I will tell you I just ordered one. Maybe you have never heard one. I agree, the first time I saw one on Nosamk's R I thought it would be totally loud, but after going for a spin in it, it sounded the quietest of any aftermarket exhausts on an R I've seen so far. This, is why I ordered it (for my hatch that is, but still).

P.S.
Thanks Rob for all the praise you give the dunk, I agree with it's merits.
Yes, I know it's loud IF you have no cat (testpipe) or even a hi floooooww cat, but I have neither for my Hatch Monster, so it should sound great!!

1 Fast GSR: Where would you get a larger gasket for say, 2.25" diameter?
Thanks!

I had a hard time finding the right gaskets and flanges when I had my custom exhaust made. Do not waste your time going to Midas or meineke. They suck and they do not have anything. They like to weld everything. Try smaller muffler shops. Ask around for a good muffler shop in your town. Like I said, it took me for ever because I did not want to have the pipe welded to my cat or the muffler. If you still can't seem to find what you need, e-mail SMSP (Dave). He can sell you the stuff you need. I had to contact him when I could not find the gaskets and I flanges and he said he could sell them to me. That same day, someone at work referr me to a muffler shop so I tried and they had the stuff!!!

Thanks everyone, in particular 1fastGSR! I ended up bringing in my b-pipe to match up the flange to a gasket and I got the right one for a little over $3. Not too bad and then I bought 1/2" bolts that worked fine, even though when I originally bought them I bought the wrong threaded nuts. That sucked, but other than that everything went quite well. I have a few questions though....Does anyone else have trouble getting to the top bolt on the cat/b-pipe connection like me? I finally removed the heat-shield (My friend did) and then everything went smooth from there, but w/o that bolt it would've been a quick/easier install. Also, will there be any problem if I don't install the heatshield back? Also, my hangers are kinda weird. I moved the canister hangers on the lower hangers, well the one on the passenger side, but the tip is still slightly to the right, but oh well, just as long as it doesn't hit.

Here's my impressions.....
1st of all, the look actually isn't too bad, sure it's a just a TAD () bigger than I would like, but hopefully it will grow on me. I did get the exhaust for a great price shipped so that is another plus. Upon starting up the exhaust, I noticed that at idle it was much bassier. Just a deep sound, which was a good sound. At WOT the noise is very loud, but not raspy, just a continuing deep sound that actually sounds really good other than the level of the noise. (As I'm typing these sentences, they don't make too much sense, so bear with me.) The one thing I don't like about it is the attention I'm sure it will grab. I was going to the grocery store and I tried to keep the RPM's under 2000 to avoid every person looking at my car. But other than that I couldn't say too much more. I would give it overall a 7.5 on a scale of 10. I'm sure I just need to get use to everything. Thanks everyone for your help!

So where did you end up getting your gasket at?
Thanks.

Glad you like it, I can't wait to put mine on my civic! I think I'll wait until after winter though.
