Default Honda Accord 2.0 Mods & maintence

Hi all. Im new here and I need a lot of help. So I hope you guys are nice. I'm kinda used to working on Fords, but I have a friend with a 1990 2.0L Accord. Here is what he did to it. He drove it with one quart of oil, overheated the engine, thus blowing the head gasket, and here's where I have the question. The car makes horrible noises... It sounds like it's all top end problems like valves and such, but when I get the car going the valves, or whatever the noise is, stop making the noise. My first thought was that maybe it was VTec, but the car doesn't have that. Know I think it's the valves and the balance shaft. Since I'm not sure I thought I would ask the experts. Here is the second part of my question.

Like I said, I'm used to Domestics, Taurus's specifically, (thus the sig) but I want to get in on this popular, to say the least, scene. What we're going to do is drop in a replacement 2.0 in there for the meantime and then I want to go all out on his old engine. I need to know what kind of modifications show the best gains on this engine. I also want to keep the engine naturally aspirated. I tried searching, but it couldn't find anything for "2.0". If anyone could help me out or point me out to a link from a past thread, that would be great. Thanks! - Mike

well, since you have the f22 engine in there, not too much besides forced induction is going to help it....cam gears, cam shafts, i/h/e, pistons rods, etc will help, but if he's looking for speed, you'll need to drop in a H22 (prelude engine) you can get a complete swap (engine, tranny, axles, ecu, linkage, etcetc) for around $2500, sometimes lower - it bolts right in........

Really? Is this not a common engine? That is so not what I wanted to hear.

Ok I did a little more searching. I noticed that I said it was a 2.0. It's a 2.2 sorry. So what I am wondering is if the heads off of an h22 would drop onto the f22 block. Or are there new F22's with Vtec? If I were to switch to a Vtec head, what other sensors would I need aside for probably the computer from the Vtec engine. Thank you everyone for your patience with me.
